Title: 79 Robinson
Post by: In2 bmx on August 24, 2012, 11:55 PM
My last build  finished and another rare Robinson to complete a collection from 1978 -1986 ..

I won this on USA ebay years ago ..  Another Rare little Robinson as they only made these for a few months ..  Its the missing link from my 78 and 79 with the hole gusset to the 80-81 with the stamped gusset .. The decals are correct , i love the fact they are from both era's of Robinson .

A 79 flat gusset Robinson.. :smitten:   When it arrived i spotted a problem  :( the top tube was bent near the gusset ..  :(  i had 3 options .

Do it as it was , try and get it fixed  ..  or skip it ..  :-\

Anyway legend Phil ( sawzall ) read my thread and said send it to him to see what he could do .. he tried pushing the front end up in a fooking big press but it didnt work so the fun began ...

Also big thanks to SBD for the candy blue powder  :4_17_5:     And Joff for help with the wheels ..  :4_17_5:

1979 Flat gusset Robinson ..

Something else special about this bike , The 1978  Elina seat with original JT Racing logo was originaly on my 78 Robinson bitd ..  :smitten:

What can we say about Phil's skills , the guy is a legend and totally genuine with it too  :4_17_5: :4_17_5:  RAD would be a far worse place if it wasn't for the likes of Phil and Steve , both resto kings who just happen to build great bikes aswell  :daumenhoch:

Love the build Carl  :smitten:

You don't do things by halves mate and this is another stunner  8)

Glad the seat finally found a new home  ;)  Pleased you left the original JT decal on there too .

Fooking awesome Carl  Phil is a miracle worker, bringing that back from the dead - great work  :4_17_5:

Love the little touches, like the seat with JT racing logo - it makes the bike look authentic. It's ok dressing everything with NOS, but this looks like a bike would have back then  :smitten:

Possibly my favourite of your Robbo's mate, I say that with every new build you do  :LolLolLolLol: awesome mate  :4_17_5:

Looks like everyone's already said how amazing Phil's work is so i'll add to it. Amazing work Phil as always and RAD's very lucky to have you  :4_17_5:

I have a set of Reedy cages in blue I might be selling at some point Carl  :daumenhoch:  Nothing wrong with Helix cages as they're pretty much bang on replicas of early Reedy's.  Probaly some of the best vintage pedals ever made IMO, mine spin forever  :4_17_5:

Nice work on the bike as always and it's probably my fave of yours  :daumenhoch:  Was the blue a standard colour for these ?

Keep me posted on the cages Ash , it's like getting blood out of a stone when your selling stuff ..  ;)  . And the blue, there is a blue hole gusset on the museum with chrome forks . It looks original and the blue is fadded and i know they did red and white .. So i'd say they did do blue but there is not that many about so who realy know's  :daumenhoch:
