Having never built a race bike what bits would you fit to get the ultimate race bike.
I have a chrome frame and forks (Delta 2) and that is it so far.
-
Depends a lot on what age limit you're going for ??? Late 80s parts would have slayed most stuff from earlier in the decade.
-
anything NOS! :LolLolLolLol:

83 - 86 were the main years of manufacture for a DP Firebird Delta 2
-
Ah - 400 or 401 cranks, Hutch stem, Uni seat/post, DX pedals (if you like platforms) or beartraps of some sort if not, Pro Neck chainring, any decent sealed hubs (could go exotic if you want), Comp IV tyres etc etc.
-
How about finding out who were the uk champions from the years you've mentioned, getting a spec list of the bikes they used and you can then find out what parts you like or available and build from there.
-
Probably need to start with a GT frame and forks >:D :LolLolLolLol:

Was only an £80 frameset BITD Brett, so, unless patriotic and loaded, most built up would have used average bits.
Araya aero's, one piece crank,(task force for me) powerdisk/chainring combo, DX or suntour bear traps.
MX1000, suntour stem, uni combo seat (not turbo, urrgh!)
Bars?, CW's with a zeronine plate.
Can't imagine many of these built up with exotic Hutch parts, most round our way were burner upgrades!!
All in black/gold/chrome

Great idea :daumenhoch:
A good place to start has to be the bike used by the 85 British World Champion :Great_Britain:

I'd have to agree Rob, from a British race prospective Andy's pro class was the nuts. Class bike with top components and the best Brit rider in his era.
-
There's no such thing: its all relative. ;)
-
Brett you need a good f&f to start with, if it's a dp just put burner parts on it, deffo the first upgrade for burners

Have to agree with the Ruffell thing :daumenhoch:
To me its the reason why I bugged my Dad to buy me one when I was racing, also the reason I saved all my pocket money/paper round/milk round money up :daumenhoch:
Others to consider is is a
PK (like Bubba's)
Tim March's bike
Pete Pete Middleton's Supergoose
Geth Shooters winning bike in the Kelloggs when he spanked the yanks :4_17_5:
Charlie Reynolds bike

Got some good idea's to go by here Brett.
The dp team riders could use any parts they wanted back in the day like any body else so that leaves the world your oyster really.
Then there's the bonus of the cheaper option as munnyella points out, no import marking the frames up to the yank prices had it's pluses.
Here's pics of jimmyp's ruffels to think about. The aero pro and the pro class.

I know the bloke likes his conspiracy theory stuff and is probably sat with tin foil wrapped around his head
But they are cracking builds and credit where credit is due fella

Glynny,s right US frames were loads more expensive due to import tax,so they are comparable in price in real terms :daumenhoch:
Get some nice bits on it :daumenhoch:

think people have drifted of slighlty from Bretts original question . he wanted to know what BITS to fit to his DP race frame.

brakes ................. mx 1000's
crank ................... redline flight/profile/sugino 3 piece
pedals ................. hutch bear traps
seat .................... uni turbo (nice and light)
wheels................. pro class or arayas .... built on suzue sealed hubs or hutch hubs if you wana be super flash
tyers ................... comp 111s

all of the above on a robbo pro frame and forks :daumenhoch: just like my original race bike :smitten:

I put pics up to check the parts out, I think the other teams/riders names posted were so brett could go away & check the bikes out himself. So I think it's still pretty much on track.
Brett the pro class has renthal bars on. I remember woody telling me galindo or gt were a favourite too.
