Title: Doing work for others
Post by: Darren KAP on September 07, 2012, 11:13 PM

As most of you probably already know i don't mind helping other Radsters out with repairs and spraying  to there frames etc and to be totally honest i really enjoy doing it plus it gives me some extra pp fundage . I never charge what i could be earning as i do it as n when i get chance . I posted in the messers section earlier agreeing that yes that 99% on Rad are spot on to deal with etc  but i've now got another problem where i've done work etc for some who's not playing the game as i made the mistake of posting out or letting them collect and pay me a little later ,  i also put that i've got 4 who are not coming forward with the cash  and that i won't name them just yet ,

Well to my surprise 1 of them then texts me about what i've put , so it proves this certain Radster can get in touch when it suits him .

Well today it's come to ahead i want it sorting i'm sick of being given the run around  >:(

What are your thoughts guys  as my heads really fooked over this and it's really spoiling my hobby

I would not ask someone to do me some work unless i had the cash there ready ???
Been stung myself with another hobby so peeps do get stuff until i see the cash.
If you have tried getting in touch with them and it's obvious they are avoiding you name and shame dont help them out again. Peeps like dat only spoil it forthe rest of us as you might just stop helping everyone  >:(

Maybe they have a reason for not paying  ???

I know I've let people take Bikes and Parts from me and they haven't paid for weeks with promises of payment  :crazy2: I had to chase them too  ::)

I would be the same  :daumenhoch:

Shame you have to post this Darren , it's meant to be a hobby and a bit of fun at the end of the day with lads helping each other out . Never had any bad dealings on here myself and i do believe the majority of RADsters are genuine top lads but there will always be a few who will take the p155 :(

That's what happens when people take advantage of your good nature... Don't go changing mate its the git who isn't paying you that needs to sort it out . I  hope there is a valid reason behind the non payment ... Stay cool.

Get the money up front Darren.
I imagine unless its an unknown like our kids celica you can give a pretty accurate price or at least ask for 3/4 of what you think it may be. I never start any work without at least 50% up front no matter what the job is  :daumenhoch:

When it's a car build i ask for 1K as part payment but it's non returnable  , but i've never asked in the 19 years of being in business for cash up front for repairs / spraying etc i just fund it .

Title: Re: Doing work for others
Post by: Cleedubber on September 08, 2012, 12:52 AM
It's sad to see things like this posted   :(

I think the only answer in future is to give people a defined deadline of when they'll have to pay, or if they can't get the funds to you, then the job has to go on hold until they can

I know some people are desperate to get their bike finished, but if they can't fund the build, then they can't fund the build, it has to be as simple as that surely  :-\

Its one thing doing a favour to help fellow Radsters, its another to be left out of pocket for doing that favour.....thats just wrong, I feel for your dilema man

I hear you Darren and i used to be exactly the same but have been in too many situations in the past with people playing silly buggers. Thankfully since i started my own business all the customers i have seem to be great and a few have become friends but back when i fitted kitchens and bedrooms it was another story.
I'm a cabinet maker not a bailiff and i hated standing in a customers house demanding money. On a few occasions the company i worked for told me to start to remove the work if the customer started acting up..... its amazing how quickly these people found the money once you called their bluff.

The long and short of it is you are providing a service (and a good one at that) so if people are not prepared to show faith in you by handing over a deposit, why should you show faith in them out of your own pocket.

It sounds harsh i know but not one of my customers has ever had any problem with deposits and it leaves me safe in the knowledge that my materials and some of my time are covered should something happen  :daumenhoch:

It's bad enough them not paying you but when they've not even got the common courtesy of getting on the blower to explain why and you're the one spending time and money doing the job and then chasing them for money... it's a  proper wind-up! They're not only taking the pesh out of you Darren but also out of the way this forum/community runs. Get 'em named and then they might just get they're finger out.

But I don't get why you would do all the work and then send the stuff out without payment. Yes it can be for the good of RAD and as a "favour" but it's still your business. Take a leaf out of Dan's book and if they don't pay..shoot em....and keep the stuff until they do  :daumenhoch:

Had it done to me in the past. If you still have the parts, send them a registered letter asking to be paid or said items will be sold to recover costs involved. Only option then is to threaten small claims court but that costs but if it serves a warning...

Crap situation Daz :(

Some people seem to think good nature is something they can take advantage of,like its some sort of weakness :(

Personally i have repaired stuff and sent the odd thing out without getting payment first, but only for people i have dealt with before and know i can trust.

I have also custom made bits and pieces, for people i didnt know, only for them to not get back to me so im stuck with stuff :(

Anyone who does this though is noted and they get fook all in the future :daumenhoch:

If it were me Daz,i would just do jobs for guys I knew well, but thats just me......

TBH i said on the dreaded BOTM thread that the hobby had become full of jealous backstabbing frauds and arse lickers  . I was shot down in flames for saying that . Now this is a typical example of my comment . Its a disgrace quite frankly

I remember when i got in to the scene 7 years ago and when you bought/sold anything you would stick so free goodies in the parcel . Stickers , dustcaps , memorabilia whatever .

Those days are well gone  :(

Good luck with your issue daz .................. There are some real good people left  :daumenhoch:                             somewhere  :police:

Common decency is seriously lacking these days in every aspect of life. Give them a deadline to get the cash to you or reasonable explanation then if they're still not forthcoming name and shame, that at the very least will stop it happening to others.

Hope you get it sorted though mate.

You're not going to like me for saying this, but anyway...

As I see it;

1. Send them a message giving them a deadline to respond. After that, name them, wipe your mouth and move on. Lesson learnt.

2. Don't be surprised if it comes to light that as it appears you're a wealthy man perhaps some people secretly think "it's only kappy, he's not going hungry - fcuk him". Another lesson.

This has happened to me outside of bmx in the past. People have had the misconception that I'm a wealthy fella - christ knows how they arrived at that conclusion - and I've had to read the riot act to them to get what's mine. These were so called friends too.

As someone else has already said, people will haveten mistake kindness for weakness.

In your shoes, I suspect I'd tell them to keep their money and choke on it. Then make sure the whole world and their mother knows those people are no good.

Fcuking kids bike.

I've had something similar happen to me, a what I thought was a friend at my last job came to me one day almost in tears begging me to help him out, I lent him £200, he promised to pay me back in two weeks, almost a year later, I have got £100 back in two payments & every month I contact him & get another sob story & this is a so called friend who I helped out when he was in need, last month, I got "come on it's not like you're going to miss £100, you're going on like I owe you £100,000"  >:( after this I will never lend money out again, total Pi$$taker, so I totally understand how you feel Darren & I say fook them, name & shame & in future payment up front  :daumenhoch:

i play it, no money no frame :daumenhoch:

just name the pricks  ;)

best thing anyones said.........just name them or else this thread is a complete waste of time  :daumenhoch:

How long have you been waiting? weeks? months?  personally i never like to owe anyone money, ive bought a few things off mates who have shipped or given me the items and agreed to pay them at the end of the month (payday) and as soon as that day comes the money is paypal'd over.  shyte thing for anyone to do is to break that trust you've given Daz.

I say PM the guys and give them till the end of the day or you out them and we all know they're not to be trusted  :daumenhoch:
