Title: Profile top hat washer. Whats going on?
Post by: midschooljon on September 12, 2012, 08:27 PM
Is it just me or are all the new 22/19mm top hat washers actually bigger then 22mm? I bought 3 of them to use on some profile sprockets and none of them fit in the centre hole of the sprocket? Does anyone know where I can get top hat washers that will fit Profile sprockets? Its doing my head in!  :LolLolLolLol:

some of these profile sprockets are well weird
i had one the other day that wouldn't fit a top hat washer of any size and wouldn't  fit a opc either :uglystupid2:.
i ended up dremmeling it out a bit to get it to fit in the end.

Ive found there to be no standard of top hat size (apart from the 19mm hole in the middle).

Some are 22mm, some are whatever the old money version is of 22m, and some are some size unto their own  :-\

A while ago i took a few chainrings into work and made custom top hat washers for all the ones that didnt seem to have one that fitted.

I have one Profile ring that has a HUGH hole in the middle and the top hat washer is almost as heavy as the ring itself! Mad.

the hole should be 15/16" or 23.8mm

Older sprockets/discs seem to have 23.8mm hole. And you will need a 23.8 - 19 convertor. Newer sprockets seem to be either 22mm or 19mm so all you normally get is a 22 - 19 convertor.
Although Fit have now bought out a crank with a 24mm (23.8mm) axle. Look nice but waiting to see if the smaller bearings hold up.
