Title: Best way to polish alloy

Ok I've got a load of survivor parts, rims, stems, cranks etc that are dull as Fook alloy..... What's the best way to polish them up? I don't have a polishing wheel by the way. Would a polishing mop on a drill do it? Do you use compound etc? Cheers boys :10_2_12:

autosol is more abrasive than peek but both have advantages

Hot water, dish washing liquid, and a scotch pad. :daumenhoch:
If you want original finish that's the best place to start. If you still aren't happy after that then try a little polish. People take to polishing parts too quickly in my opinion, and the bits just look over restored in the end. You will be surprised how good things come up with a bit of hot water and soap. :)

peek is chrome polish,not as abrasive as autosol :daumenhoch:

he hasn't said what finish he wants
scotch pad will bring some bits up but can also dull some down
autosol will polish up but can leave hair lines in parts which will catch in certain lights
peek will polish up and also if enough elbow grease used will be a mirror polished look
scotch pads will give different looks depending on how fresh/used it is
cloths used will also give different finishes - tight pattern cloths can get a build up on them - loose pattern cloths (car cleaning cloth) can give a good finish as it can shift paste around better

brasso is good, buy the wadding in the can one not the liquid one, readily available at your local asda/morrisons/tesco etc...
