Yes :)

yes :)

I can remember it too.
Fooking raining constantly, with high winds sweeping off of the sea and stupid wooden jumps.
-
Yep, cold, wet, crap accomodation, awful track, stupid race format, nowt to do in the evening apart from watch bigger kids play old arcade machines or watch the grownups get sloshed followed by a long, hungry journey home. Why don't they do that anymore??

i raced there a few times.
we used to holiday there, and they had a kids 'bmx freestyle' comp every week for the holidaymakers. i won the comp the week we went, which entitled us to return for the final which was september or october (i think, same time as the big race) so i got to race that and enter the 'freestyle' final also. i ended up winning the freestyle final and won our family a weeks holiday and like £100 cash and a pile of wall's ice cream goodies. i still have the trophy which entitles me to the title of 'pontins bmx freestyle champion 1987' :LolLolLolLol:

:LolLolLolLol: thats some accolade. I only went once, it will have been 86 or 87. I have a photo somewhere. Everyone had the same numberplate, pontins must've supplied them.

I used to go often 83/84 I guess, my parents had a caravan which they took to the pontins site and they basically never saw me from morning till night, I raced there on my freestyle bike with mags many times and did quite well, I spent most my time riding the ramps as they kept that dodgy bmxweekly quaterpipe there, we used to put the trick ramp in front of the wooden tabletop and jump to the downside of it, I have so many good memories of the place.

I won the 14-16 (I think) cruiser class and came 2nd in the 20" in 1984 (again I think).
