Title: Cheeky little replica (Now Finished)
Post by: GavinDavis on October 07, 2012, 03:19 PM
Well ive had this bike in the shed for a couple of months now and didnt know which way I was going to go with it?  I ummed and arred for a while before deciding to make a cheeky little Kuwahara E.T Rep for a bit of fun :)

I stripped it all apart, standard stuff really....until I came to the crappy KK stem that seemed to be seized solid in the forks!  Me and the mrs played tug of war with it for a while but that wasnt working so I ended up having to smack it out from underneath for the best part of 20 minutes.

I used Peugeot diablo red as i could find any Lucifer red anywhere, standard white and then clear lacquer.  The decals were off our friend Del....Im really impressed with it as a look a like....The finish is awesome considering its rattle canned.

This is how it looked when I first got it:

And with a whip of the magic wand...It ended up looking like this :)

Lol  ;D .  I couldnt exactly find out what frame it is to be honest, its kinda similar to a Viceroy/Puch type frame, the serial begins with a K.  The nearest I got it to was a Kosoku so it could be one of them?

Thanks bud :) .....Halfords paint of all things lol.  I never ever praise "Halfrauds" because of their prices but it seems their paint is pretty good!  No sanding in between stages and a good dose of clear coat works wonders eh :)

Thanks mate :)

Once I'd eventually got the stem out of the forks, I set about the prep.....so with degreasing everything, flatting it all back....wiping it down, letting it dry, primer, paint and lacquer it took me about 3 or 4 hours i guess.  i left it until the following day to apply the decals.....thats when it really made a difference!! :)

Yeah this was just a real cheapy :) .....Truth be told I paid a tenner for the whole bike lol.  Then i spent the best part of £40 on paint and decals lol.  Was well worth it though :)

This is true...although when I do see that one has been drilled I cant help feeling slightly happy as it only serves to increase the value of mine!

Righty then :)

Had a bit of time today to grab a couple of bits and then spend some time polishing it all up ready to be fitted......The only thing it needs now is a brake cable as the one I had as a spare turned out to be a front :( ....epic fail!! lol.

I think its turned out really cool for a rep :) ....I know its not bang on but its a twist on the original with the chrome seatpost, wheels and crank which i reckon works pretty well.

Take a peek :)

A lot of my stuff comes from the US, depends on the seller, I've paid as little as $5 for a group 1 stem to be posted. I just missed a mint one go for $75, went to make a brew before hitting "Buy it now" only to come back to an ended auction  :'(
Put me off my cuppa  :)
