:daumenhoch: Saw this on the museum and thought it looked great :daumenhoch:
-
I particularly like the way this Promotional picture shows the stickers lifting on all corners and it also shows how good the welds on the forks are. Avertising gold :LolLolLolLol:
-
Well spotted :LolLolLolLol:
-
to be fair, this one is the prototype......so i'm guessing was thrown together just to grab a few shots and bound to be a bit rough around the edges.
-
haha good spot.
have to say though, very impressed with mine :smitten:
-
Does that mean the 20" is having v brakes too??? :-\
-
It's a modern race frame, so V brakes and internal 1 1/8 headset. l like it :daumenhoch:
-
In a nutshell its a new school TA. :4_17_5: Hay pickle any ideas on the TT length?
-
21.25 from what i remember :daumenhoch:
-
So whats the damage for these...?

Still interested, could be interesting. :)

all the welds look pretty good to me
-
Looks blinging.
Not ANOTHER bike i may have to buy. ???
-
That decal actually looks too big? :crazy2:
I mentioned the v-brakes on facesplash but got advised that is how old school bikes are built these days. :D
-
probably just taken off the 24" TA so i guess it would be a little longer?
-
#attentiontodeatailslacking
-
::)
-
Any details on the package that will be available?
-
Just Frame and Fork :)
You better sell me that Torker so you can buy one Rich :daumenhoch:
-
They plan to release them sometime in 2013 but they're not taking pre-orders yet.
-
Don't get me wrong, I used to be a massive fan of Skyway. However with the churn out of old stuff revamped, one thing after another, in a very production line type manner my opinions are somewhat changed. Do they have any plans to get back in the game with some new stuff?
-
You'd have to ask Ed at colouredtuffs i guess.........but these things are never going to please everyone

Thing is its still a business...

Fully aware of that dude..... :daumenhoch:
-
Fully aware of that dude..... :daumenhoch:
Not intended to be patronizing. ;)
I suspect their decisions are influenced by money (obviously), growing popularity of OS & the loyalty of Skyway fans/collectors.
-
What BB is it ?
-
Mid I think?
-
This is the 20" coming out next year.
-
BB is euro Pete
-
The V Brake mounts have put me right off ::)
Why not put some removable 990s on it if they have to put anything ??? I think V brake's look wrong on any bike they just seem to look in the way :(
-
I'm happy with the internal headset, euro bb :-\ and the v brakes, not so much.
I would have gone down the chrome new school build using the aero seat tube, removable brake mounts (or even fixed under the seat stay). Keep the Skyway touches of old but bring it up to date. And go mid bb. :daumenhoch:
-
Its a race frame.........how many race frames nowadays have 990 mounts?
-
Its a new school race frame so i guess that why it has the V brake. My ONE race bike had a V on it and was brilliant in the braking department. I know the look of them is kind of toysrus but its what the race bikes have.
-
I would have thought there'd be a bigger market for a freestyle frame :-\
I know BITD they were used for both disciplines
But then I suppose if its N/S geometry it can be rode in a park
Or sat on so you can chat in my case >:D

Me too :daumenhoch:
Because how many people buying them will actually race them ??? If I was buying a frame to actually race I wouldn't buy one of these :daumenhoch:
Internal headset, Mid BB & removable 990s :daumenhoch:
-
BITD a BMX was a BMX and used for anything. Well it was round where i lived. Freestyle bikes were raced on and race bikes could be seen having it around ROM.
I like the V brakes as they actually work much more effectively than a U brake.
Who knows perhaps they will be a cracking race bike when they come out. The original TAs were/are awesome race bikes.
-
Its a race frame.........how many race frames nowadays have 990 mounts?
I appreciate that, and know V brakes are a race bike thing. Would it be too difficult to produce both types?! :-\
-
I would have to disagree with the U Brake not working as well as a V Brake. It depends what U Brake you are using. I use to use DC or Weinmann centre pulls and they work friggin' awesome. It's how you set them up.
Skyway are just on the same band wagon as most. Get them out before the 80's guys get fed up buying BMX (not a debate time Rich :D ). They should listen to the buyer more than the bank notes. They will still make a huge profit if it's done right :daumenhoch:
-
I would have to disagree with the U Brake not working as well as a V Brake.
Your entitled to disagree... but you'd be wrong. :daumenhoch:
V Brakes provide superior braking. :daumenhoch:
-

Exactly, with a v brake it doesnt matter which one you use or how you set it up. Just bolt it on, put the cable through and it will stop you on a dime. :daumenhoch:
Larger leverage equals more power.
-
So how many of these will be at the gate?
-
People are racing the 24 as its designed for it. The 20 will be the same. OK it's not a full on race machine like your saw at the Olympics but some of those things look down right ridiculous.
-
I thought the Olympic bikes looked fookin awesome. Just my opinion though. :)
-

Like you say, each to their own. I had a u brake on my Haro, stopped on a dime, a u brake on my Schwinn, stopped on dime, a pitbull on my Ripper, stopped on a dime ;-)) Toy
-
like i said before, you're never going to please everyone with anything.
Some will want:
A complete copy of the original
as above but with identifying marks
Totally new school bike
New school copy of original
V brake mounts
No V brake mounts
U brake mounts
Different people will like different things :daumenhoch:
I think they've done a great job and will definately consider getting one :daumenhoch:
-
I want a TA that I can use as a rider and be able to stop when I want it to.
Can't do either with my '84 TA, so I'm looking forward to to having one that has the look and works as I want it to.
-
You'll be getting a sponsorship with replies like that Julian!!! :LolLolLolLol:
-
You'll be getting a sponsorship with replies like that Julian!!! :LolLolLolLol:
I wish. ;D
I'd settle for a massive discount though.
-
Love the original TA although not sure about those mounts but I guess it depends who they're marketing it at. I don't suppose they'll win all OS hearts but if they're wanting to appeal to the wider audience then what they have done will probably do that.
Anyway, bugger the brakes I remember a sterm look or two from Mum when I used to put the feet to the ground to slow down.
-
Insteps missing from the good old trainer brakes. :D
-
Any indication on cost ???
-
none yet Peter, they haven't announced any details yet other than the pictures on the Museum and that it will be out in 2013 (and maybe other items as well) ???
-
Lots of skyway goodies out already grips, pedals etc. So you can get your parts spec ready for when it comes out. I have got to have these cranks stickers.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/bboygraphix/3381849976/
-
The crank stickers are lovely :smitten:
-
I quite like the look of that actually.
Don't get me wrong, I used to be a massive fan of Skyway. However with the churn out of old stuff revamped, one thing after another, in a very production line type manner my opinions are somewhat changed. Do they have any plans to get back in the game with some new stuff?
Thing is its still a business...
Just reading Ed's comments on the 24 and the marketing strategy i don't think skyway have sold out tbh, just targeted a specific market.
It seems they are aiming at the old skyway fans that still want to have a go so have adapted to newer race friendly geometry in order to appeal a bit more to them. I know the bikes don't compare with the serious race bikes of today but the guys in the US just turning out for the love that's been ground in from yesteryear, then i see the point.
How many guys that raced in the 80's are turning out in the US at the moment ?.... I think a lot more than in this country that's for sure.
In doing what they are doing i don't think they have sold out simply because the intention is there for the bikes to be raced on, even if it be just for fun and by the skyway fans of the 80's.
Personally I would have prefered them to have sold out and just gone down the retro repro avenue because i think the only market for them in the UK is the bmx pub crawl brigade that i am happy to be a part of.
Saying that the new 24's are a worthy pub steed too. :coolsmiley:
-
The crank stickers are lovely :smitten:
x2
-
Not sure i said anything about selling out? I just find it a bit of a let down and boring to just re-hash a 30 year old bike, wheels and whatever else is in the cupboard. Get amongst it.... :4_17_5:
-
Let down how exactly ???
-
As in I had expectations of some cutting edge shit like everyone else manages to do, like they used to do. Just my opinion of course dear chap. Now i'm off out for beers. :D
-
I particularly like the way this Promotional picture shows the stickers lifting on all corners and it also shows how good the welds on the forks are. Avertising gold :LolLolLolLol:
This is the prototype guys. The decals are just for mock-up only. The production frames will have "correct" decals on them. Our priority at the moment is to test the frameset. Not the decals!
-
probably just taken off the 24" TA so i guess it would be a little longer?
Correct.

Actually, as part of the design team on these frames, I'm setting these up the way that I personally would want a frame. I'm 43, and been in BMX since the beginning, and miss the look and feel of bikes back then. I certainly didn't want to build just another aluminum frame. And the guys at Skyway all agree on that too. All of them are old-school BMX guys too.....

You can't tell by looking at the photo- but that is a Profile cassette hub with a 16 tooth cog in that rear Tuff Wheel! That is a prototype as well....
-
So do I get the option of NOT having the V mounts on the frame and fork and just having the rear bridge like in the picture ???
-
Why would you want that as an option?
-
Why would you want that as an option?
If you like the idea of just having a new skyway to ride around on to the park with kids or the pub with lads and also want that os feel even though the frame is the more rider freindly ns geometry. Then an option of dropping those mounts when ordering would be a great idea imo.
-
I think i'll be having one of these even if it's just for a bit of fun :daumenhoch:
-
+1 for losing the gay brakes :-X
-
I love it :daumenhoch: providing there's not a "p1ss take" price I'm having one :daumenhoch:
-
I think i'll be having one of these even if it's just for a bit of fun :daumenhoch:
Wish I had the funds to buy something like this just for fun. You make it sound like you're buying a raffle ticket!
-
Why loose the brakes in favour of ones that don't work?
You'll want a wobbly 1" threaded headset next :D
-
Because V brakes look wank :police:
-
Because I look wank

Devilc@cks latest build is a perfect example of how crap V brakes look ;D
(http://i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x455/oldschoolace/devilock.jpg)
-
stick an Oddy A brake on it, or a Pauls brake...they both look cool :daumenhoch:
or a nice set of canti's with a pozzi stop clamp ???
move with the times ya old fookers ;D
-
Or, as a radical idea, instead of spunking £500 on one of these framesets, and opting out of/removing the lugs, why not just buy an old one? Just a thought
-

You will not pick up an old TA with mint chrome, perfect drops, no crushing on the brake bridge and no internal rust for anywhere near £500 ::)
I want an internal h/s, I want new geometry, I want mint chrome, I want to build it new scholl but, I don't want ugly looking V brakes on it when I can fit a cool looking pitbull, that works just as good, instead.
-

You're right...I paid £175!! ;D
-
I want gets nothing..........i would like stands a chance.
I think V brakes look fine on the rear...........shyte on the front but then it won't have that so all good with me :daumenhoch:
why go all new school and use a cap looking pitt bull? a V will look much better in my opinion.
-
You're right...I paid £175
You forget to include, Anal activity and empty fridge leading to grass munching for 3 months to that Rich :LolLolLolLol:

The saying Rob is "Ask don't get, Don't ask don't want" ;) I asked the question and just await an answer. I will be chopping them off anyways if the answer is a definate no, when I get one (if I get one :D ) as to me, they look absolute pants, regardless of who thinks or if they work better than any other caliper. :daumenhoch:
-
I thought the saying is 'If you dont ask you dont get'... ???
-
Time for Ed to chime in and resolve the matter. Ist tempting to think they may do some without the V mounts as the bridge has a brake hole but as its a prototype nothing is certain..... well apart from the fact that V brakes look crap and remind me of the cheap bikes you see in asda ;D
-
well apart from the fact that V brakes look crap and remind me of the cheap bikes you see in asda ;D
Bang on! ;D
-
Could always ask for one without any brake mounts at all and get Darren K.A.P to upgrade them for disc brakes...
There. All sorted. ;D
-
Yeah get it with no mounting whatsoever & use a coaster. :D
-
You will not pick up an old TA with mint chrome, perfect drops, no crushing on the brake bridge and no internal rust for anywhere near £500 ::)
I probably could. I'd have my doubts if I was you though. ;D

-
You guys are just sounding old and fuddy duddy now. Why waste modern technology with brakes that don't work? Pitbulls are as ugly as v-brakes.
Just wait until somebody (JDB) finally produces the MX1000 v-brakes and they will look ace with the n/s Skyway T/A.

:LolLolLolLol: @ some of the comments.
Some peeps don't get retro riding. :(
-
that is the daftest lookin brake i've ever seen :uglystupid2:
-
Yeah and why is it flocked? Super gay! ;D
-
Yeah and why is it flocked? Super gay! ;D
Christ it is a early picture, they only one I could find. They have also produced them in polished alloy.
-
I know its a 3d printed/prototype cnc'd thing, just mucking about :daumenhoch:
Does look flocked though ;D
-
Is it not the same thing as the new Mini or Beetle ? New car loosely based on the original concept, you wouldn't have a new Mini with drum brakes or a Beetle with 6v electrics just because it was right back then. Again it comes down to if you like it buy it and I'm sure if 1000 are made 1000 will be sold.
-
Yeah and why is it flocked? Super gay! ;D
Christ it is a early picture, they only one I could find. They have also produced them in polished alloy.
Yes i remember that guy on the museum that did a modern day redline and had them machined, They looked the nuts.

Here is a polished alloy version....

That brake is sik! Where can one get one?
-
Those brake's are the nut's!! A modern take on an 80's classic design(we'ther they worked or not), they look far better than those cack repop's that Dia Compe have released :uglystupid2: :2gunsfiring_v1:
Buz ;)
-
still looks pretty ugly to me im afraid :uglystupid2:

I've seen it all now , that's nuts ::)
Don't get wrong not as nuts as putting a normal MX1000 on
-
Yep I still like them. They do look better quality than the mx2 they do at the moment.
-
Biggest problem is those MX1000 v-brakes will never be produced. JDB (John De Bruin) bought the rights to them and said that he will not ever get them made.
-
Why don't some one just rip 'em off? Bloody shame not to produce them.
-
Biggest problem is those MX1000 v-brakes will never be produced. JDB (John De Bruin) bought the rights to them and said that he will not ever get them made.
I thought they were just a one off by some guy that had engineering skills for his own bike or am i thinking of something else i have seen?
If the JDB story is right then what's the points in that, surely it's the guys own design as no one has the rights to two letters do they?
Dia compe didn't back in the day. Every man and his dog were making callipers with mx stamped on them.
-
That's cool a lot better than a w8nky calliper, especially on a new bike
-
Just googled them and got this thread on vintage.
http://www.vintagebmx.com/community/index.php'showtopic=27059956
Don't know if there is any more in depth info somewhere but this just looks like the guy that did the cad drawing handed it to JDB and he then he decided not to go with them.
Couldn't someone else just do the same ?
It would be nice to see them on a few bikes if they work as they look a vast improvement on a lot of the standard v brakes. :coolsmiley:
-
I dont see a radical new design at all, Its just a variation of Cane creeks direct curve, which has been around for a long time, just buy one of these and polish it

:) The Aest levers/calipers are cack....had a set and they flex like hell..Currently running one of these:
