Was it paint, powder or chemical blacking ? Ur thoughts ;)

From memory Steve, too durable for wet paint, too thin for powder, so I would say some kind of electro plating.

if you are refering to the black finish as on ashtabula parts and spindles on pedals, then its chemical blacking, theres a local guy to me that does this type of work along with zinc coatings on all my crusty old nuts and bolts.... ;)
