I have always run a single rear brake with the lever on the right, for racing, trails, park and street riding etc. But when i briefly tried running a front brake aswell, i ran the front on the right and rear on the left. Dont know why :crazy2: just felt right. Infact all my road bikes and mountain bikes with 2 brakes have been set up this way.
Which side do you run your rear brake and like me, does it change if you run both front and rear?
Or should i just get out more? :LolLolLolLol:

Depends where you're from, I have my front on the right because that's how every bike since my budgie came set up :Great_Britain:
From Wikipedia...
It is customary to place the front brake lever on the left in right-side-driving countries, and vice versa,[57] because the hand on the side nearer the centre of the road is more commonly used for hand signals, and the rear brake can not pitch the bicyclist forward. However, a skillful bicyclist does better with the front brake on the side that is less often used for hand signals. In an emergency situation, operation of the brake has to be second nature; an unskilled bicyclist could find reversed brake levers confusing. Fortunately, it is usually easy to switch brake cables.

Bitd, I used to run my levers on either side, never bothered me too much (I am ambidextrous though). It also depended on whether I was racing with a front brake or not (some tracks I used a front brake, some I didn't).
I know that Greg Hill also used to run the back brake on either side, depending on how he was feeling that day.

I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous

A bike supplied by a bike shop within the UK will have the rear brake on the left.
If you need a brake to be on the side of your stongest hand then it isnt set up right :)
-
Left of course ,it's always been the standard in the U.K (opposite in the U.S ) :Great_Britain:
and I think this may be the reason ,on a motorbike the front brake is on the right hand side , so this carries over on a bicycle ::)
Do what what suits you , obviuosly :daumenhoch: :)
but if it ain't the left side remember , you're either weird , gay or American :crazy2: :-* :idiot2:
or all 3 :D

front on the left, rear on the right on the bmx
front on the right, rear on the left on my road bike
trick to not killing myself on the road bike by pulling the wrong brake is to pull both at the same time!!!

Front right, always has been. The body does do somethings better on one side than the other. Skiing is one of em. Turning right to left..
