This one's of real interest to me, as I'm sure they'll be some differences of opinions on this topic.
............. or maybe not??
Is there a universal outright winner? :4_17_5:
-
No, simply because there are plenty of bikes there's only one of...
-
And rare doesn't always mean its desirable either. ;)
-
Me :daumenhoch:
-
And rare doesn't always mean its desirable either. ;)
Exactly. Ive always championed this view.
-
He didn't ask for desirable though......just rare :daumenhoch:
Animal and Sawzall have a few rare old beauties! :daumenhoch:
-
Ok, your right, maybe I need to express myself in a more specific bracket.
On many forums we have certain bikes with reference to the 'holy grail'.
These are usually more well known bikes from the big manufacturers that have either been made in limited numbers or are early bikes in which only a few have survived.
Does that help???
-

Ok,and what year and models are these rare old beauties??
-
There's a couple of collector's I know of who have not been members on here and have some uber rare F&F's and parts
Sean's R&R/ ex slingshot is rare and Ash's got some very rare 70's bikes as well, along with a couple :coolsmiley: scot breithaupt actual bikes :4_17_5:
The ACE F&F what Andy has is also very very rare :daumenhoch:
-
id love to see a pic of an MDP frame set (mike dominguez products) anyone got a pic? :daumenhoch:
-
There is no one bike that everybody would call their holy grail!Everyone has a different 'holy grail'.For one man it could be something quite common such as a Skyway t/a or a Haro master,For another it could be something uber rare and exotic like a VDC freestyler. As said before rare is not always desirable just like the aforementioned VDC which many do not like! Some bikes are rare because not a lot were made and they were too expensive bitd for many people to own one. Some are rare because alot broke bitd. Some are not that rare just very desirable. It's abit like saying who is the 'most desirable woman' in the world. There would be many differing opinons!! :daumenhoch:
-
One bike pops into my head if you say u.k and rare-Holeshot RF-1 Freestyler :daumenhoch:

I agree, and in my original post i stated that what interests me is the difference of opinions.
I'm also hoping of posts with pics and info for us newbies to research and indulge.
And who knows , maybe there is a more 'popular' rare or desirable product that reached out to the masses more than the others.
That's the point of the thread.

thats totally different to the thread topic. time to have a longer think when hitting the new topic button !
a UNIVERSAL outright winner ?! none of them ! :LolLolLolLol:
-
Oh Fiddlesticks, another hole dug.
I'm off back to my cave!!! :-\
-
No, I'm going to carry on digging until someone's t**ts me!!
I was sort of hoping for more of.....
" I've always loved the ........"
" If i had the money I'd buy the ....."
" I've never seen one in the flesh"
"If one came up....."
-
Rare would simply mean in my eyes the only one in the UK regardless of its value.
My Slingshot was rare but I think mainly for the Slingshot forks and Slingshot bars.
My R&R is the only one in the UK, but many of us on here have the only ones in the UK.
To be honest I think this site has some of the rarest and best bikes anywhere in the world.

I would say off the top of my head that a certain Phil Sawzall's SJK Hurricane with all it relevant SJK bits will take some beating ;) Rare as hens teeth with a bit of rocking horse s--- thrown in 4 good measure as a yard stick :daumenhoch:

Apparently only about 25 Gorilla shorts were made and only 3 known to exist with a rare oval top tube.

Profile made Hutch Standard. Never seen another like this. Bought it from Juan and he believes it to be one of, if not the earliest examples with a drilled brake bridge. This is the only Standard even on the museum. There are a few Pro Racers but not one other with these decals (half of which are og)

There is one in Gosport Adam with original chrome and stickers including bars. I went to a southern regional there last year and an elderly guy in his 60's+ rode up on it to watch the racing, it was his sons from back in the day. I was chatting to him for a little while about it. Apparently he had a 20" at home to including all the race gear.

I have got the rarest circumcision scars, ask bof

They used to make great DH bikes. Great racers like Sam Hill & Nathan Rennie used to ride for Iron Horse.

I'll chip in with a few, can't be bothered to post up pics but as far as SE goes and bikes in the UK Adam's right theres only a hand full of STR-1's (79) plenty of 80's though.
And as far as I know only 2 BD-III's, 1 DB IV and 2 RTT Ripper's (for now :-X) and 1 JU-6. Like Peter said a couple of the OM's bikes are here too, one of which is number 1 of 5 custom made Flovals 8)
On a non SE front, theres a 77 DG and 79 DG, 75 Dan Gurney Monoshock, 1 78 Cook bros Mini plus some other stuff.. ohh and a NOS Boxed Skyway TA.
-
ohh and a NOS Boxed Skyway TA.

As far as i'm aware,me an Glen had the only two Hutchins in the UK..that was till he sold his and it went back to the US. Any one know of another?
-
I 've only seen a few Torker cruisers. Addam there are 2 Torker mini's in the museum collection and I'm sure Ratty had one at MK with a broken seat tube.
Saw a VDC pit bike once at Hayes BMx track.

i have the only KNOWN Brackens cruiser in the uk. there are 2 other Brackens but the are pro models . this frame and forks does have a little bit of a storey behind it to.
i bought it from "Dennis Dains" aka "RED BARON"
who kindly sent me a few extra presents in the box along with the frame and forks :smitten:
and the storey that goes with the frame and forks is........... my Brackens does not have the 2 triangle wedges welded behind the b.b.(like most other Brackens frames) Greg Hill helped Tommy Brackens design the frame , and Tommy gave Greg the frame and forks as a gift. Dennis ended up with the frame and forks off Greg and then built her up . Dennis stressed to me that he nor Greg or Tommy ever raced the frame and forks. Dennis listed the frame and forks on us ebay , but didnt really want to sell to the u.k. i saw the frame and forks and emailed him. eventually i ended up with it. Several weeks after i recieved the frame and forks Dennis emailed me a photo he had of the frame set built up .......... with Tommy himself riding the bike in the street .
My Brackens although not a common bike isnt the rarest bike on rad by a long chalk. but its the rarest bike i own and she has a little bit of a story to tell .
If your new to rad , or your not sure who Dennis Dains is heres the link to his Thread , very long now as he comes back and adds to it , and im so glad he does :daumenhoch:
