Title: wheel build advice
Post by: stevepeanut on December 17, 2012, 04:45 PM
I need a little advice here,

My other half is building up a custom painted burner, and we have most of the parts but her wheels are awfull.

I am gonna get her some wheels built up from scratch, heres what I have bought so far

Suzue hubs and Odyssey t1000 rims, see pics below.

What I need to know, is what kind of spokes and nipples to buy, I have never done anything like this in my life so I brand new to it, if anyone could put me some ebay links or a link to some on a bmx shop site,  and put up to what I need that would be most appreciated. Also what I am thinking, is to follow the "how to lace a wheel" guide on here, and get them built up, then took to a local bicycle shop to get them finished and trued.

I can't help with your spoke sizes but your thinking is spot on. I've built all my own wheels from scratch but still can't finally tension amd true one for toffee, so my LBS does that for me at a ressession-busting £6 per wheel. It's only just gone up from a fiver as well.... ;-)

If you can leave one wheel laced up or compare the one you are doing to one already done it's even easier as you just copy it :daumenhoch:
