Title: GT rear brake mounting
Post by: HUTCHMAN on December 21, 2012, 04:18 PM
Your thoughts please...i got a rather nice ali GT box stay frame circa 1998. The only brake the frame will take is a caliper, but the hole for the caliper spindle is about 8mm(being lazy, measured it with litluns plastic ruler)...am i looking at knocking up a small shim or an alternative rear caliper? was it ACS that made a larger spindle caliper?

ACS boa has a large spindle, your frame might have been drilled for one

Easier to find with the larger spindle  :daumenhoch:

after a little research it seems you have a gt speed series jr expert frame

http://www.ebay.com/itm/GT-SPEED-SERIES-JR-EXPERT-FRAME-FORK-CRANKS-CRUPI-BARS-CAMPAGNOLO-BRAKES-/300701200497

hence why it has no brake mounts and has a different brake mount bridge to the normal speed series frames :daumenhoch:

heres a normal gt speed series brake mount bridge

http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/gt_bicycles/51911#.UNXMMXcfySo

a road bike brake will work, you can get them for £10 upwards, they have a 6mm bolt and a 8mm shafted allen key nut, check the pic in the link to see what i mean

cheers Kev...quite ironic, the one in the e bay link ,the frame number ends 0869,mine ends in 0896(just a useless bit of info really).
