This 1980/81 R model Frame and Forks is the second in my collection (Tink's is in the background in the shot) this was shipped over along with Carl's Scott Clark EBB fron Chicago, Illinois, the Robinson Bars were from MarkyP and the other bits I either already had or will need to source over the next couple of months...... :smiley6600:

There was plenty of these bikes around Wigan mate given Alan was the sole importer for a number of the US manufacturers and we had three tracks within 30 minutes of each other.

I have found something tonight, I had some of my R bikes build up for a mate to look at and he noticed my two smaller framed bikes have quite a few differences in them :(.
He is right too they are different In terms of size and geometry.
My original one known as the 81 with a serial 112*** and no E or P stamping on the drop out is an 18" TT and has quite a significant angle towards the head stock.
My other one we think is an 81 with an earlier serial 050*** stamped on the BB, no E or P stamped on dropouts but the frame is 3/4" longer at just under 19" TT and has a different shape to the rear brake bridge area and the TT is much shallower angle to the other frame, but the frame and wheelbase is definitely 1" longer when sude by side. The other noticable difference is the tubing and BB is thicker guage material.
I have an 83 Pro here and that is 19.5" TT just a smidge longer then the 050 frameset.
What's your thoughts on this ? :(

There snides Darren , you have been done :LolLolLolLol:

-
No only seen it tonight well it was the Sheik who saw it not me went like this .... he asked if it was my new Pro .... " And I said no there Experts"... The Shiek said dont think so its 1" longer wheel base look you twonk get yer glasses on ..... Folk me it is too that's odd dunno then :-\
It's definitely a longer bike though 100% :-\
I will consult the Master Robinson Jedi today.

I have been given what I believe the answer from the top, so its right !
The earlier bikes were made by different manufacturers so it is more than likely these Pre E expert stamped frames with the earliy serial numbers were made by different engineering workshops with different tooling capabilities. Once they were under contract to be built by one rather large mainstream manufacturer with serial numbers and size demarcations then became consistent by year and size like 883124 being an 83 and P or E or M for size as we know :daumenhoch:
-
I have been given a good bit of advise from a very very good man over the Pond.

Who told you that Darren ? Has he some connection with Robinson ?
Only thinking that Carl might want to ask him a few things ;)
