Title: DC MX900 vs MX1000 reach ?
Post by: delbert on December 29, 2012, 10:31 AM
Hi guys,

I have a good survivor set of DC MX900's I was going to use on my new Torker build but I can't use the front easily with a pots mod and now it looks like I have a small issue with the rear.

The MX900 rear simply does not have enough reach without the wheel being fully forward in the drop outs, a look I am not really into.

So after some research it seems the MX1000 has a longer reach than the 900 or a 901, can someone confirm if I am correct and if a MX1000 has the longer reach and if so by how much?

As always any help or advice would be very much appreciated.

Simon.

The number in the name of the caliper is the reach of the arms. The 1000 is therefore longer than the 900. The 1080 is even longer if you can't reach with a 1000.

I recall explaining this before, but the number refers to mm from the centre of the brake spindle to the centre of the brake block in the average (mid) position of the slot where the blocks are fitted.

890=89mm
900=90mm
1000=100mm
1020=102mm
1080=108mm

Minis can use 730's down to 610's depending on the Wheel build size.

Do you have the correct hardware on the spindles? You might resolve the problem with the right fixings holding the calliper away from the rear arch?
