Title: 17/02 - FINISHED Reissue Kuwahara KZ 01 Build
Post by: Retrodan72 on January 03, 2013, 06:22 PM: So...I got this off Nick last month, fancied a Kuwie for a while, and got bored with building freestylers and the complexity of getting the right parts, and colours to match on then etc.

I like the simplicity of a race bike, abd bought a Laserlite, but that needs rechroming, then Nick offered this up. :coolsmiley:

It's a 2006, but with nice fresh chrome, it seemed just what I was looking for. :smitten: thanks again Nickers. :4_17_5:

So it arrived in its original box and packaging...

...and I'd already started getting parts for the other Kuwie, so started to acquire a few more, so I got a Nikyo headset from eBay (to keep the budget down), and Mat offered me a mint Suntour Power stem and a mint Suntour Arrow seat clamp. ;)

All I needed was a dry, warm day to get up to the workshop at my Mums, and get stuck in.

Best re-issue Kuwahara done the KZ-1R, better than the repo of today KZ-01.

I've gone for those 7x style ones that Porkchop has, black with shiny sides, ordered them on Wednesday, laced to black Suzue low flange hubs with Asahi spokes. :coolsmiley:

A Kuwahara KZ-1 is one of my dream bikes and I've also looked at these KZ-1R 2006 re-issues (probably the nicest/best of the Kuwie re-issues?)

That's how I like to build them. I prefer to have loads of bikes that look the part, than one or two bikes with top end bits. It's just personal preference really. :daumenhoch:

Post by: Retrodan72 on February 16, 2013, 05:55 PM: Quick tinker today, getting close to boxing this off now, just the chain and rear cable to fit, make final adjustments and tighten everything up. ;)

So today, I fitted rim strips, only remembered when I saw Sams whodunit thread. ::)

I sourced the Sugino 44t chainring from my chrome DP, and fitted it to the rechromed Sugino 1 piece from my Old Street Beat, with some black anodised bolts.

The Tange BB is also from the Beat, and some NOS KKT pedals complete the drive section parts. Had a nervous moment when the chainring teeth were hitting the chainstay, but trued up with a few mm to spare when the BB was tightened up.

funny you should ask, I've just been working out the cost of the build, and considering the seat, rims, brakes and tyres are all repop, it still adds up to around £800. But to me, the money's not a factor, I can waste that money in the pub quicker.
