Ok, i've been on this forum a while now and am yet to share any of my bikes. Seeing as this one was spotted in the background of a wanted post and a couple of folk requested more pics i thought what the hell, lets put this one out there for some feedback, good or bad :)
I'm going through a fancy something "a bit different" phase at the moment.
Agreed - a Quad is hardly different but perhaps my choice of colour is. I wanted orange as I think it offsets well against the black decals but i didn't want a new school fluoro orange, I hope the pictures pick up the pastel tones that I think are still in keeping with an 84 frame set. A big thank you to my good mate Darren KAP for painting the Quad :daumenhoch:
I'm thinking black grips and saddle, not sure whether to use chrome or black SPC? I'm sticking with the CT175 as they first came into use (I think) in 84 on both race and FS bikes but not sure if I should swap out the chrome Sugino chainring for a black one....
I'll add some sharper (non iPhone) pics as I progress. I hope you like it.
Chris

Quads are the coolest :smitten:
-
Nice kitchen tiles :daumenhoch:

Is the first shot to show us your kitchen or the bike...??!!! :D
That will look cool...just ditch the CT's...! ;)
-
Purple wall tiles in the kitchen... Now that's an idea!!!
thanks for that :)

Sets off the granite and cherry wood a treat darling... :-*
Think I should have started a home interiors thread... ;D
-
I really like the purple...you should get green tiled flooring...! :daumenhoch:

Sounds a bit like a Sport i'm building, i might share that next
I'll include some more show home pics to help inspire fellow Radsters in their home furnishings :daumenhoch:
-
As said, bye bye the CT's. I'd go for black seat etc as you mentioned. That'll look nice. :daumenhoch:
On the kitchen front...just finished ours! ;D

Nice gloss white slab. :daumenhoch:
At the risk of talking about BMX - what fooking cranks do you lot suggest? I don't fancy "air pedalling" ;D
-
A nice Sugino OPC. :daumenhoch:
-
::)
Cro-mo Sugino one piece, black machined Sugino sprocket. :daumenhoch:
-
I like that a lot, looks really nice, good choice of colours. :coolsmiley:

Cheers Rob. The 'island' is actually a table, we had that already and haven't changed it yet. :daumenhoch:
Hurry up and get this quad built. ;)
-
Funny - the only thing i said i was sticking with was the CT's and asked for advice on a couple of other bits - then give or take the only thing i get feedback on is the CTs!! Classic :2funny:
I have a wanted for race tyres and Grippa's but think i'll just dress her in some fat/thin Tioga Comp III repops? ???
-
Sorry, I read "I'm thinking black grips and saddle, not sure whether to use chrome or black SPC?" as being "Single Piece Crank"! :D
Go with black parts on that, it'll look cool.
-
im liking this QUAD lots , orange is different. for me id go black grips ,pedals, seat, cables and breaks. chrome post :daumenhoch: but each to their own , theres no wrongs .
-

:D :D Seat post clamp - i'm making up my own acronyms now! :LolLolLolLol:
To be honest i'm having second thoughts now - i read a similar thread about 3PC vs one piece on a Ripper - i've been deliberating ever since...
-

I've got a black Elina lightning bolt saddle - i think the flash will go with the orange. I have a chrome post, black MX1000, DC cable and Tech III, black bubble font A'mes, waiting on black DXs as I wanted 9/16 spindles for the CT - if I go with a one piece crank then I dont have to wait for the spindles as I have 1/2 already.
What about tyres? Should I go with the repop comp III?

Not sure about that blue Kettle Matt. :-\ Think a Chrome one would suit the Kitchen better.

Repop Comp3's get my vote. :daumenhoch:

love the low profile tyres and new school style seat.... :D
that is an unusually nice colour for a quad, it somehow looks right....
nice kitchen btw ;)
-
Like that a lot and as it happens it's very similar to an SE colour :daumenhoch:
-
Quad and kitchens are cool :coolsmiley:

Orangie-Boom !

The Orange Quadangle was infact a Fred Blood Freestyle Quad that came out in 85, the 3 colours were Orange, Magenta and Blue. Hard to find frames now mind.

:smitten: thats looking sweet Chris :4_17_5:

tell me, how do you know it's an FB Quad ?
The way to tell is the rear platforms actually go right to the axle slots - manufacturing blunder as I understand it. I need to see a better pic as I think its a regular Quad Freestyle. Did I pass? ;)
-
Any body got any pix ? I've never seen this comparison .

Yup I have, as you can clearly see the platform extends much further than a standard freestyle Quad :daumenhoch:

Wll I've just been chatting with Fred Blood and he's confirmed to me that the FB freestyle Quad not only had different standers but also a steeper head tube angle :4_17_5:

Useful connection. I've been offered a standard. Still a very nice frame set but I might start sending out some feelers Stateside for a genuine FB - one can but try. :)

I'd love a fb quad !!!
My blue quad has a one piece crank and I love it and wouldn't change it one bit . I am building one with all the bling bits on but my first quad will always be the best .

A real slow burner this one, tyres added. Started to disassemble the CT crank for a one piece. I have NOS Sugino which i think i'll fit.
I've also swapped out the black twin bolt DC clamp for a silver one. Loosely fitted a black MX1000 but am now thinking silver???
-
Looks great Chris,
I would go silver with brakes to match the stem & clamp but black is still nice
-
Black for me Chris, but will look good either way. :-\
It's a tricky one to decide on, I'm basing my black preference on your headset choice. :daumenhoch:
-
Black Brake, Black Seatclamp, Black Chainring, Black Pedals I reckon ;)
-
Started with black. Then started fiddling with silver as I'm waiting on some 1/2 black DXs.
Once I get the pedals I'll build it up with black components,,, hopefully this weekend :daumenhoch:

Top banana. I think black will definately look better against the orange rather than silver but either way it looks awesome :smitten:
-
Dedicated some time to completing this today - well the Skyway version anyway...
So under much pressure my spine collapsed and i swapped out the CT175s for a NOS Sugino 84 OPC, powerdisc and chain ring.
I also opted for primarily black components and the odd bit of chrome - i think the final result is sweet, i hope you agree.
I'm waiting on some 84 Michelin Hi-Lite's which i'll wrap around some black Araya 7X side shined wheels and get some pics up of the more race look.

agree 200 % :smitten:
They're not even skinny 1 3/8 race tyres, and its a race bike posted in 'old school race' so i'm trying to be faithful to the sport...
I'm not in the habit of binning £100 tyres, but if you are, save yourself the hassle and PayPal me the money instead :D
