Title: 84 SE Quad - RACE SET UP 13.3.13 PICS Page 5
Post by: Jaan on January 04, 2013, 11:43 AM
Ok, i've been on this forum a while now and am yet to share any of my bikes.  Seeing as this one was spotted in the background of a wanted post and a couple of folk requested more pics i thought what the hell, lets put this one out there for some feedback, good or bad  :)

I'm going through a fancy something "a bit different" phase at the moment.

Agreed - a Quad is hardly different but perhaps my choice of colour is. I wanted orange as I think it offsets well against the black decals but i didn't want a new school fluoro orange, I hope the pictures pick up the pastel tones that I think are still in keeping with an 84 frame set. A big thank you to my good mate Darren KAP for painting the Quad  :daumenhoch:

I'm thinking black grips and saddle, not sure whether to use chrome or black SPC? I'm sticking with the CT175 as they first came into use (I think) in 84 on both race and FS bikes but not sure if I should swap out the chrome Sugino chainring for a black one....

I'll add some sharper (non iPhone) pics as I progress.  I hope you like it.

Chris

At the risk of talking about BMX - what fooking cranks do you lot suggest?  I don't fancy "air pedalling"  ;D

Funny - the only thing i said i was sticking with was the CT's and asked for advice on a couple of other bits - then give or take the only thing i get feedback on is the CTs!! Classic  :2funny:

I have a wanted for race tyres and Grippa's but think i'll just dress her in some fat/thin Tioga Comp III repops?  ???

Sorry, I read "I'm thinking black grips and saddle, not sure whether to use chrome or black SPC?" as being "Single Piece Crank"!  :D

Go with black parts on that, it'll look cool.

:D :D Seat post clamp - i'm making up my own acronyms now!  :LolLolLolLol:

To be honest i'm having second thoughts now - i read a similar thread about 3PC vs one piece on a Ripper - i've been deliberating ever since...

I've got a black Elina lightning bolt saddle - i think the flash will go with the orange.  I have a chrome post, black MX1000, DC cable and Tech III, black bubble font A'mes, waiting on black DXs as I wanted 9/16 spindles for the CT - if I go with a one piece crank then I dont have to wait for the spindles as I have 1/2 already.

What about tyres? Should I go with the repop comp III?

Mad ! What bars and crank is it

Bars on the non-ad bike look like Tioga Air Waves to me. Not sure on the cranks...

A real slow burner this one, tyres added. Started to disassemble the CT crank for a one piece. I have NOS Sugino which i think i'll fit.

I've also swapped out the black twin bolt DC clamp for a silver one. Loosely fitted a black MX1000 but am now thinking silver???

Looks great Chris,

I would go silver with brakes to match the stem & clamp but black is still nice

Black for me Chris, but will look good either way. :-\

It's a tricky one to decide on, I'm basing my black preference on your headset choice. :daumenhoch:

Black Brake, Black Seatclamp, Black Chainring, Black Pedals I reckon ;)

Post by: Jaan on January 19, 2013, 06:10 PM
Started with black. Then started fiddling with silver as I'm waiting on some 1/2 black DXs.

Once I get the pedals I'll build it up with black components,,, hopefully this weekend  :daumenhoch:

Top banana. I think black will definately look better against the orange rather than silver but either way it looks awesome  :smitten:

Dedicated some time to completing this today - well the Skyway version anyway...

So under much pressure my spine collapsed and i swapped out the CT175s for a NOS Sugino 84 OPC, powerdisc and chain ring.

I also opted for primarily black components and the odd bit of chrome - i think the final result is sweet, i hope you agree.

I'm waiting on some 84 Michelin Hi-Lite's which i'll wrap around some black Araya 7X side shined wheels and get some pics up of the more race look.
