 ???   ?

There will always be NOS stuff ,unless time is going to stand still .

Stuff you buy now and  don't use and leave for years will be NOS  :)

NOS bmx items will run out   after they stop making BMX items  :daumenhoch:

Well looked after parts  will still be  around and available for as long as we are all bothered  or alive , that's for sure
, even when they aren't technically NOS , because you would say they will have been built eventually .

So you will always be able to build a bike with mint bits .  :daumenhoch:

Show built MINT  parts look the same as NOS, ,,,,,,,so does the NOS bit matter ?  ???

Although  I know there are many who just like parts  in their bags and packaging like a shop  :)

My Dad got hold of a Bonnet badge for his Beetle NOS still in wax paper wrapping and in the original small match box sized box ,

Over 53 years old  item ,,,,, and he fitted it .

Had somebody owned  it 20 years ago hoping to keep it NOS forever  , who knows  ::)

what is the real meaning of NOS ?.... in my book NOS is new, not fitted and ideally still in original pacakging ... thats the true meaning of NOS like the vw badge Chris mentions... to other NOS means its new, never been fitted. to others NOS means only fitted to a show bike and never actually ridden. then some jokers try and sell parts that 3/4 people have had on show bikes and try and sell them as NOS because NOS can fetch a high price  :D..............   to answeryour question. how would you actually know when the last NOS piece of  70's/80's bmx is sold ?  you wont.. simply because at any time some one can pop up with something for sale ........ in reallity the sale of NOS parts will just slow down .

It doesn't have to be packaged as you can have an item but lose/discard the packet/box.

If the sealed NOS parts are sold on & the new owners open & install it then there is the possibility for it to cease to exist...!!  :D

If you want to be really picky shouldn't only shops that have stored the part be allowed to call the part nos,  because when someone buys it its no longer new and should be classed as second hand if it was to be sold on again. Mint and unmarked is always better than nos anyhow...

If I buy a part and the items is  NOS ,,meaning  "never fitted still in untouched packaging "

Then  I build a bike, with  parts on that I  myself have taken out of the original packaging , then I say built with

NOS pedals , NOS Grips , etc . Because I got them totally NOS  :)

If I came to sell the parts after removal (and no riding use) , obviously they are no longer NOS , they're mint show ponied .

Nobody can sell you an item as NOS  still ,,,,when taken off their build , even with the original packaging . Although they try to,, and some do word their adverts that way  ::)

Simple really

If it was in the untouched packaging when you got it ,,,,it was/is new

If it didn't come in  the OG box/packet ,, you can bet it's mint/ponied .

If you're buying a part to fit it anyway ,does it matter NOS or not

I've had NOS un-built Araya  rims before scratched to death  from bad storage  ,, worse than survivor ridden ones   :crazy2:

i think unmarked , original finish and undamaged , even if part has had several owners and lightly mounted  is far superior to a lot of nos in the bag scratched to shit

take for instance a nos set of rims , built and show mounted , would you not still class the rims as nos as they haven't seen a brake pad and used for what they were meant for  ???

Was the meaning of NOS  ... New Old Stock ....  ;)

I believe that the new modern parts now , will also become Nos in the time. When its not gonne be used.

Not true, someone could buy up an entire shop of old parts like Biagio did, this stuff is still Nos until sold  :daumenhoch:

A real grey area this isn't it?  Sam was trading his seat and not using the NOS buzzword to maximise profits though.   :daumenhoch:

All my stuff is used. If it's sealed in the bag when it arrives, 5mins later is it fook NOS as it's on a bike :LolLolLolLol:

Had two show ponies since I got back into this daft hobby 13 years ago and I couldn't ride them as they had absolutely mint parts, especially the rims. They were never described as NOS when I split them and sold them - mint possibly, but nothing is NOS once it's out in the fresh air, end of :yahoo_silent:

Back to the original question....I was lucky enough to meet a private collector(he's not on any forums) this weekend.....
he had a lot of NOS items ( things in bags, packages, boxes..never used, never opened or mounted )...

If he has this kind of stuff then others must do to and sooner or later this stuff will find it's way onto the open market ?
Even in the short period I've been collecting (2 years) I've got some NOS parts in boxes/plastic packs never fitted or opened.....I'm sure everyone on here will have some of the same as it comes with the territory.

On some level there are still lots of NOS parts out there but they are increasingly becoming the less desirable parts/colours and makes.
