Title: Couple of old pictures from Wimbourne (I think)
Post by: SteveG on January 28, 2013, 11:47 AM: Usual thing, Mum had been clearing out and found a couple of pictures. I think they are taken at Wimborne in about 1983.
I only raced a few times (I wasn't very good) and these were me on my Redline. Paper plate number plate and custom de-stickered Yes helmet.

Post by: SteveG on January 28, 2013, 02:14 PM: Does anyone recognise it as being Wimborne ? I only raced there and Southampton as far as I can remember. I don't think it's Southampton as there aren't any containers in view.

Was Wimbourne the Magna Mustangs track? I went to watch there once before I started racing but never raced there.

Apart from the track layout the blue and white tyres give it away,

Wimborne was Magna Mustangs, brilliant track. It had a table top that dropped down in to a bomb hole.

Definitely Bournemouth you can tell in the 1st pic with the last straight curving back around the 2nd berm. We used to do gates there sometimes if we fancied a change from our local track at Lordshill.

Yeah its changed massively Dave, the first straight and the last straight run parallel with each other now, this is done because of a massive sweeping first berm.

Post by: mr hoppy on January 29, 2013, 02:46 PM: yes thats bournemouth, wimbourne had two tracks, the first circa 1980/1 was wimbourne & district bmx club which was behind the slaghter house it was a downhill track rather like the ones that dennis dain posted pics of(my mate niel allen was club champ. they then became poole panthers and moved to alder hills. the second one was magna mustangs at mannington heath owned and and run by the anstead family. hope this helps :)
