Title: Are these Tuffs going to be safe to ride??
Post by: threaders on February 02, 2013, 10:44 AM
Hi chaps,
Just got these the other day in order to do a resto:
Just got through one side of one wheel and have spotted a nicley sized crack on the side of the front tuff :'(
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/yy272/Threadwell20/100_1937_zps740463d3.jpg)
The crack shows through on both sides of the wheel and continues on to the rim by a couple of mm. I cant see any signs of it on the inside of the rim or on the side of the rim, but just wanted to know if they will be safe to ride on and whats the likleyhood of it splitting in two on me :daumenhoch:
Worst case scenario I suppose is having to find an orphan yellow alloy hubbed front Tuff as I havent come accross any way to fix a cracked tuff. Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated. Cheers :)

Should be fine for a roll to the pub and stuff, most of the strain is taken by the 5 spokes so i wouldn't worry.
Just dont do any curb endo's  ;)

I wouldn't feel too safe riding on that other than just rolling :-\

Thanks for the advice fellas. Not too sure what to do now as I am halfway through restoring both wheels :-\ Apologies for the stupid question, but what happens if a tuff snaps when you are riding it?? Does the pressure from the tyre keep it together so you can ride home, or will I be flying over the handlebars :idiot2:

Cheers fellas. I can only just about jump down a curb, so flights of stairs are way out of my league ;D Just been doing some more cleaning and still have both the other sides to do :daumenhoch:
