are pro class wheels just arayas with holes drilled in them?
if i drill a set of arayas with the right sized holes in the right place, do i have pro class rims?
-
:LolLolLolLol:
Not quite you'd still need the little sticker that runs around the valve hole!

no, just fooked arayas
-
so pro class wheels arent just drilled arayas then? 7x style?
-
wouldn't know to be honest G lad, but i wouldn't do it. them holes look like either part of the forgeing or at least punched and not drilled.
-
when you read peoples discription they say '' drilled araya 7x's''. there was a guy from oz that had some done, and he was using them. though i'm sure it'll need to be more than a just drill 'em out at home job, you'll need to set up a jig so each one is the same

There are two kinds:
There are stamped and unstamped - both kinds were produced by Araya for Mongoose.
So yes that's exactly what they are!
-
The early Pro-Class rims were exactly that, drilled Araya 7X, I have a couple of sets where you can see the remains of the Araya stamp that has been drilled. The later models didn't have the stamp as they were made for Mongoose for drilling.
-
are they drilled or punched before they are bent?
-
well i will drill my arayas to suit my mongoose build.
and suit it they will.
-
Go for it Graeme . . . :daumenhoch:
-
well will you! :LolLolLolLol: just wondered, might have a go myself, allways liked pro class rims. reason why i asked, if they are punched, they will have a rounded rim and not if they are drilled, just good for authenticity, punching is impossible on a allready bent rim profile. but can countersink. gonna do it on my mitygoose when i see how yours turn out G. photo's asap please ;) still wouldn't do it to 20"arayas but those 16"steel jobo's on the pit bike need all the weightloss they can get.
-
they are drilled not punched ;)
-
they were made at the same place so you decide ::)
-
cheers matt :daumenhoch:
-
were pro class rims polished or just annodised?
and what size is the hole?
-
the front is 10mm and the rear is 6mm i think theyre anno
-
10mm front 6 rear?
i right i will buy some new drill bits and do this over the weekend
-
im sure they were done in chrome and anno, the holes are 10mm front and rear :daumenhoch:
-
i am sure i have read in the spec that the front were 10mm and the back were 6mm for the extra strength check some of the scans on here
-
sorry this is what i read
Mongoose Pro Class 4 Sprint Rims
These are a product I can thoroughly recommend ,although unlike other parts in this section, I doubt you will find any of these on the market today!
These are my rims and they date back to 1989 - can you believe it? They are Mongoose Pro Class 4 Sprint Rims and they are a very high-end product. They were a very limited edition release at the time, because they are the only rims that I’ve ever seen that were sold in pairs and were front and rear specific.
They are made of a very rare magnesium alloy, unlike most mass produced aluminium rims

nowadays, and in between every second spoke they have a hole punched out to save weight (10mm on front and 6mm on rear) as they are actually built for racing. Unlike other race wheels, however, they have 48 spokes due to the lightness of each rim, thus giving a strength to weight ratio better than any other wheelset on the market.
This has been proved as I have been riding them for so long and I'm not the smoothest guy out there most people didn't want to fork out £200 just for two rims but Eric Rupes' design works so well they have outlasted what other cheap wheels couldn't.
Good luck finding a pair, as I believe only 200 pairs were made with only a handful coming to the UK due to the high price.
-
maybe theses are later ones being 89 ??? , they started around 81/82 didn't they? :-\
-
looks like they are proclass 4 my mistake
-
My 2 geese have 10mm front and rear

mate, you will need to buy a reamer to,as just drilling will not get a good finish.if you really wanted to go over board cold working the hole after will add strength to it,but that involves special equipment.

Personally, I'd use a decent quality cone cutter with a variable speed drill :daumenhoch:

i was gonna use this:
