Title: Changing from old type chain ring/sprockets to new
Post by: Gal on February 07, 2013, 03:52 PM
I prefer the way the new school bikes have smaller chain rings and sprockets fitted. Is there a way without changing the rear hub to do this?
By the way I have those 3 spoke plastic Mongoose wheels.

As James said it is not possible without changing the rear hub.It is however possible to fit small gearing on an O/S bike. How,i do not exactly know but it has been done.Spen69 has done this conversion on a Badlander. It doesn't sound as if those old 3 spoke mags will be any use to you for what you want to achieve,as well as looking disgusting!you would be better off buying some new skyways which are available with a 9t rear driver.they may be available with a coaster too. :daumenhoch:

If you go for a new hub you can go either 36/13 or 39/14 with a flip-flop or small as 25/9 with a cassette hub. Most hubs/wheels (inc newer Skyways) with a 9T cog will most likelly have a 14mm axle so check your dropouts or grind`em down...
