Anyone powdered a suntour stem. How does the stamp hold up against the powder ?
Anyone got any pics ?
-
think this would depend on the depth of the stamp as some tend to vary, ask SBD mate he will tell you as i guess he has done a few :daumenhoch:
-
Nick just mask the shaft off and rattle can it. Use a decent primer and it's sorted. I use a good zinc based primer and have never had a poblem.
-
Cheers Spen, was thinking rattle can. Just thought I'd ask the question. :daumenhoch:

Here you go Nick, I just sprayed a blue and a silver one both black for my RetroGeese builds :daumenhoch:

What kind of paint Spen. Anything in particular ?
What's plasticoat ?
-
Nothing special Nick. I think plasticore is just a paint manufacturer but could be wrong. Got my tins from the local car spares shop down the road.
Just use a decent primer and plenty of layers of thin top coat. I also put my paint and item i'm spraying in boiling water for a bit then if the Sunday roast isn't in, chuck them in the oven on low (about 150 degrees) once they've set. Usually tough enough after two or three top coats but keep it thin and smooth spraying. Also change which way you hang the item so you don't get wet runs in the same spot.

Rub down with wet dry 400 taking out any scars, 2 fine layers of plasticote grey primer over 90 mins then 3 fine layers of plasticote satin black for instance over an afternoon then 24 hrs dry out period ;)
Stems , chain wheels , lock nuts , pedals all come good :)

Nice job lads :daumenhoch:
Plasticote is pretty decent stuff to be fair, it gives a nice finish! The only problem I have found is that the Plasticote clear lacquer seems to dissolve the paint??? I dont know why....but if you google it, you will read loads of testimonys.
I emailed Plasticote and guess what........No reply :LolLolLolLol:
So unless youre feeling brave, avoid the lacquer ;)
-
i always use then small tins of enamel you can buy from B&Q.
goes on really good and if you want a bit of lacquer on it after i use the halford one.
never had a reaction with that yet but did a few times with the plasticote one :-\.
-
Both them stems come out real nice :)

Spen, what happened to the double clamp stem?
That was probably my favourite bit...
-
I know Griff but it was for 1" diameter bars and I couldn't find a decent set..... Discussed having these modified by Animal but went with the standard option to make sure I couldnride it at Wini's do....
