If it touches I would file the drop out slot towards the front a bit and run a half link.  I didn't know there was a problem with this frame. :)

Actually scrub that. I have just read about the problem on the 2hip site.
Apparently the front sprocket runs on the chainstay. But it was only a problem on one batch.
Lets hope yours is one of the good ones.

If not run a slightly smaller front sprocket like a 38 or 40t with a coaster at the rear to give a good ratio. But remember the chain needs to clear the ad990.  :daumenhoch:
Title: Re: My first ever NOS frame build 2Hip content
Post by: Jaymz on February 20, 2013, 09:54 PM
On the 2 hip site it mentions the chain wheel hitting frame, my bit of paper say the chain may hit the seat stays, so they must've had two sketchy batches with two different problems
Title: Re: My first ever NOS frame build 2Hip content
Post by: Sid1972 on February 20, 2013, 10:07 PM
If it hits the seat stay, place a thin washer at the back of the chainring or disc depending on what your running. This will push it away from the seat stay by the thickness of whatever size washer you use. Done it before and it works.  ;)

P.S I like it..  :4_17_5:

If not run a slightly smaller front sprocket like a 38 or 40t with a coaster at the rear to give a good ratio.
I wouldn't run a coaster Stu with such a small front ring. Coaster sprockets are normally 18T plus and with a 40T at the front, it would be like trying to ride a flatland setup.

I would try something like a Shimano DX hub at the rear Jaymz. Flip the sprocket inwards to move the chain away from the stay. They are normally 14T too so running a 40T at the front is okay with it.

Terry what the fook are you talking about???

I'm not talking about a coaster on a set of tuffs from the 80's mate.
I'm talking about a 90's freecoaster like a nankai, static or sym hub. These all run 16 down to 13 tooth rear sprockets mate.  Come on son get with the mid school!!!  ;D

Been playing this morning in the man den, got lots done as you can see.
The one problem that was outlined badly by 2hip was the sat stays, well what this problem is the free wheel grinds on it, but by adding 3 washers it fixed the problem, but also meant it took a great deal of force to open the stays and get the rear wheel in, but it's done, the other problem with it is the 990 mounts are really too far towards the rear of the frame, in order for the blocks to be anywhere near the rim the wheel has to be a bit far back in the drops, but anyway, it's not like I'm going to be riding it in anger so alls good, here are some pics

Post by: Jaymz on March 01, 2013, 06:31 PM
Managed to get a couple of hours in the man den this evening. Couple of small issues raised their heads

1. Supernatural forks need 2 layers of coke can shim to properly seat the crown race
2. 1" threadless 2Hip forks are nothing like 1"1/8 threadless forks see here for how to guide http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/index.php'topic=159098.0;topicseen
3. Top giro plate fouls the bottom of the stem
4. Once top plate has been ground down and sorted, giro doesn't work as there is no distance between the plates and the cables will not tension
Title: Re: NOS 2Hip Stout Boy :: Build started on page 2
Post by: garran on March 01, 2013, 06:47 PM
point 4 you might be able to shorten the cable by using knarp type things

Ive got a gyro on mine Jay? And so did Robbo? Have a look at our build threads and see if they look any different?

I know I used a beartrap 2 headset on mine if that helps?
Title: Re: NOS 2Hip Stout Boy :: Build started on page 2
Post by: GavinDavis on March 01, 2013, 06:55 PM
.....but then that was on a couple of big boys so maybe it differs slightly? The test pics show supernaturals with a gyro though?

Post by: Jaymz on March 02, 2013, 12:30 PM
Another couple of hours this morning and some more mods to the already modded frame, proper mid school this, nothing fits

So front hub rubs on peg bosses, need to space out forks with washers

Gyro sorted, but on max extension of the cables

Back wheel slammed almost to the end of thE dropouts otherwise brake won't reach the rim

No bolts for the peg mounts so pegs on axels for now

Acs rear calliper modded to fit front need pads as well and right calliper arm won't move

So still a bit to go before I can give it a good riding

And I weighed it, see pic below

Modded headset

Title: Re: NOS 2Hip Stout Boy :: 98% finished

A beartrap 2 nut does. But you have to grind away the lip on the top.  :daumenhoch:

If you fitted a complete beartrap type the stem would sit a bit higher. Also the top gyro plate would be in the correct position so you have more adjustment. ;)

Do the peg boss holes not just need a drill bit running through them due to the extra thickness of the plating?
i was wondering if that was the case, but a bit reluctant to drill nos forks to be honest, and I don't have a drill that big to hand

NOS? They've been part of a built bike now haven't they? Get a 3/8 or 10mm drill bit through there man  :LolLolLolLol:  :daumenhoch:

Ah Jay you cant drill the forks man!  :LolLolLolLol:

Cant you just use an piece of 8mm allthread with a nut on either end?  Are you actually planning to stand/grind on them or will they be decorative?  :daumenhoch:

Decorative mate, and I think fugazi is right, the plating is rather thick as the cut edges are rounded with so much plating

Ah ok well it certainly sounds as though theyve been mega plated by that description  :-\

ah the good old days of mid school bikes where everything had to be modded to fit. tools for the job were a hacksaw, file, big hammer, drill bits and a few plasters.  ;D bikes looking good mate.

I don't know, it's only a bike. Should take about an hour and half to bang together and get everything setup right  :daumenhoch:

I would have asked Adam to come round and give me some help :coolsmiley:

Hurry up man! I want to see it finished  :4_17_5:

ive yet to ride in all honesty, and currently the seat is that high because it lives hanging from the saddle on the shed  roof if it was any lower then the bars hit the roof?

Still waiting for ten spare minutes to give it a blast as I currently have some chain alignment crunching going on and don't fancy snapping a chain during the hereford ride in a couple of weeks
