Just wanted to share..... :)
I'm an Infants teacher in Liverpool and teach 5 and 6 year olds. Today linked to our History topic I brought into school my recently finished Neil Ruffell Replica Streetbeat.
We spent all afternoon talking and looking at all things BMX. Using our Smartboard the kids learned all about Neil and Old School Radness. They (and I absolutely) bloody loved it and the bike recieved many oohs, arrrhhs and wows !!
There are now 30 Scouse kids who could explain to you the meaning of the terms one footed Can-Can, Cherrypicker, Boomerang, Quarter Pipe and what King of the Skatepark means :LolLolLolLol:. They can all tell you who Neil Ruffell was and how good he was at tricks. We looked at photos and videos and compared Neil's bike to mine before ending the day doing some fantastic observational drawings of my Streetbeat. It was absolutely mint.....the kids were so excited and interested :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
Our caretaker took some great piccies but as you all probably know I'm not allowed to share them outside school. I will be making a great display though with some blown up pictures of Neil getting Rad and the children's drawings of my bike :)
It really was the best lesson ever !! I'm still buzzing from it now :D :D :D

I believe the children are our future, teach them well and let them lead the way...

Sounds like a great history lesson.
On the top of the birthday and christmas lists this year for them will be an old school BMX. :daumenhoch:

Excellent! It's history akin to Eddie the Eagle. It may be laughable but it british as fish n chips.
-
Nice one :daumenhoch:
Wish i'd had Teachers like you.

Thanks for the positive comments guys..... yeah you never know.... may have spawned the seeds for the 2026 Olympic Games freestyle bmx gold medalist !!
The kids loved the fact both Neil and I wore glasses..... I think that's why I liked him so much when I was a kid :daumenhoch:
To be honest I was half expecting some sick kiddie fiddler jokes when I posted this.....so cheers guys... I am still really buzzin' off the experience :coolsmiley:

Cool history lesson :daumenhoch:
Much better than what happens to a turd after a Victorian took a dump ;D
-
Sounds great man
Our god daughter 11 recently got a project on skateboarding; design, materials justifications, marketing etc. I had a great morning digging out old boards, stickers, books and videos. Schools have to pick things that will interest the kids and I think your lesson + that project are great examples. :daumenhoch:
Now they just need it reinforced that Scooters are evil
-
Nice one. Cool teachers always get the respect they deserve. Good on ya. :daumenhoch:

cheers again for all the positive feedback lads :smitten:
...now I just need to figure out how to get "How to build a halfpipe ? " into our Design Technology Lesson next week :2funny:

Sounds like you got there attention, good on ya. kids don't seem to be interested in much more than games consoles and smart phones these days.
When we were kids all i wanted to do was play out on my bmx :daumenhoch:
