After Everton's shocking performance at the footy on Saturday I either wanted to go out and get waisted or treat myself to some BMX goodies .... I chose the latter and came home with this ......
1 of only 3 known to exist  ..... July 84 Torker 'Targa' 8)
here's the new baby :smitten:

Loosely based on a 280X / proX ..... no front gusset , no seat post/top tube gusset and very narrow twin top tubes . One of the very last US made Torker framesets to be made before they went bump .
Some of you may remember Alan had one on his ebay listings for a long while , describing it as a 'prototype' .
Following taken from Alans blog ...
Torker Targa Prototype
Here is possibly the rarest Torker frame in the world. It is a Torker Targa prototype and was to be a 1985 model showing the direction of how Torker frames would look in the future. Unfortunately just before Christmas 1985 Torker went into liquidation and this never happened. The frame itself is basically a 1984 280X without headtube gussets and most importantly no toptube/seat tube gusset. Toptube is 20". I purchased the frame in the auction at their Fullerton premises in February '85. The frame was fully finished and was stamped with a frame number, it was the only one in the auction and I have never seen another it so it possibly the only one in existence, I certainly haven't heard of or seen another. I also have some fax communication with Steve Johnson regarding the Targa frame, it I can put my hand to it I will include it with the frame. Originally powdercoated white, we had it painted Light Blue for our team rider Mark Cocks in 1986, then painted in team colours with unique team graphics. Mark then gave it back to us and it has been in storage since.

Some of you may also remember Rich (Devilock) posting a thread up on one a while back http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/index.php'topic=136849.0, Rich has been very helpful and we have had a few PM's back and forth over this and i dare say they will continue as we try and find out more about them ..... thanks for your help Rich :daumenhoch:
Something else which is quite cool with both Rich's and my frames is the following :

Tis nice to see something different :daumenhoch:
I remember seeing the "Alans" Proto Torker in a few of his Ebay listings :daumenhoch:

-
Thanks for the comments lads :daumenhoch: Im happy as Larry with it :)
Nice find Joff, what's the plans with it? ???
Sympathetic resto Dan ... it's defo a keeper though . I do like the survivor look and won't be going down the re-chrome or powder route . All the decals are pretty mashed up , the downtube one shown on the pics is the best ... the others especially on the other side are not good :( so unsure what to do there tbh . I have got a set of NOS Black Araya shineside rims and some Black/Silver NOS brown bearing Bullseye hubs which i reckon would look nice on it . Sourcing another set of Torker 'T' bars and another Torker stem could be a problem ::) Basically a Black and chrome build Dan 8)
Hopefully i will be riding it on this years RADTor in Wigan ;)

Cheers Matt , I'll defo keep the thread updated . Looking forward to seeing your 280X 8)
wow, rare find joff!!whats the crack with these, were they better/worse than the 280 or pro x???
Nearly everything i know about these bikes is in the thread Mark , I get the impression that it was to be the new 280X ..... there's very little info about them . None are posted on the museum and a google search brings back little info :( Obvioously the guy to try and speak to is Steve from Torker or maybe Alan knows a little more about them now . I am determined to try and find out as much as i can about them .
Nice score Joff!super rare and tasty!and a 20" top tube  :daumenhoch:
Cheers mate , the headtube length is were i have a slight discrepancy with Alans , mine measures 19.5" centre to centre . If you measure it front of headtube to the back of seatmast you get 20" ( I have never measured top tube length like that though and would be surprised if Alan had as i always thought it was centre to centre :-\ ) It's something else i would like to confirm with Alan . Im not sure what Rich's measures either but mine is 1" longer than a normal 280X and the same as a Pro X .
Great score Joff :4_17_5:
I know that a guy had one for sale near Preston , I expect this is the one :)
Glad it's gone to a deserving home , and has a good owner now :smitten:
Thanks Christian and your spot on mate it did come from Preston :daumenhoch: I had been in talks with the lad selling it for a while , really sound lad . He's had some real nice BMX's in the past but has moved on to the mountain bikes ..... he did say he fancied a cruiser, either a Hutch or a VDC ( I did tell him about Craigs so we will see ). Great person to deal with and very genuine :)
Blimey...........one of only three in existence
Great score Joff 8) Can't think of a better home for it ;)
Thanks Nath :daumenhoch: you know the feeling of owning a rare bike rare as that aero pro and a few of the other MT's you have are right up there in the rarity stakes :smitten:
Thanks again lads :daumenhoch:
-

All I can say is this .
Joff an I have been big mates for 25 years and he is the type of guy who could raid a chicken coup and come out with a Roman Coin ....
Revisit one of my old quotes;-
" Some say he rattle-canned Blackpoll tower in only one day and that he sprayed the NIke Swoosh on Ussain Bolts spikes beofre he won that Olympic final........ All we know is he's called Norty40"
Get the Kettle on Mr ROtary club 1998 and get the Bickies out c u later tonight :daumenhoch:
Ps ... Top marks on the Torker ..... :4_17_5:

Any spec in mind for the build yet Joff 8)
Not sure tbh Ash :-\ Im swaying towards Black 7X's (blk/silver bullseye hubs) , black DC890 ,Tech 3 . Torker 6 bolt stem and Torker T bars ( they seem to be fetching silly money though :( .... might have to rob them both of my yellow 280X :D ) Crank wise im thinking of just putting a nice sugino opc on , sugino spider and a black machine tooth sugino chainring . I think the Torkers suit this plain/simple opc set up well and it's what i remember as a kid . Pedals .... black DX's or possibly XCII's . I had my eye on those xcaliber pedals the other day as they would have been a nice addition .
Seat ..... could do with one those black ariake seats that Jai was selling a while back ::)
Im open to suggestions though ;)
or it might just stay as a frame and forks with the other 15 frame and forks in the loft ::) :-[ :LolLolLolLol:
-
spot on that joff :daumenhoch: those immortal words "I'm not building any more " :2funny: I don't blame you
