Title: New school bikes which side for the brakes?
Post by: paulb113 on April 17, 2013, 09:13 PM
Hi

My new bike has the rear brake lever on the left as you sit on the bike and a front brake on the right with a Potts mod. Is this correct? I have my brakes round the other way on my old school bike. Also the new school stem it has a spacer on top and and one underneath I assume I can put them both underneath to raise the stem a few mm and make it easier to spin bars, don't know if I could but would be good to have the option :LolLolLolLol:

Rear brake on the left and front brake on the right is the standard way Paul, but really its upto personal preference  :daumenhoch:

If youre used to it the other way round then id roll with that......just incase you have a sneaky front brake mishap  :LolLolLolLol:

As for the spacer, yeah....both underneath to raise it a bit is no probs, as long as your top cap is wide enough to sit on top of the stem nicely  :daumenhoch:

Like gav says, do what feels best. I have my back brake on the right and 2 spacers under the stem.
Its still freestyle to me. Now there's a word that's underused in bmx these days. Mmm... Freestyle...
 :)

Cheers :)

Think I will change them round my brain won't be able to cope with two different set ups! And move the spacers if the stem looks ok but may be a pain with it having Potts mod.

You can't beat a bit of Freestyle :LolLolLolLol: went to Liverpool and one of the guys sons had never seen any of the tricks I had dusted off from the 80s  ;D He had a brakeless top of the range new school bike and wants an old school bike too, made me feel very old :LolLolLolLol:

Paul, just ride 'em the way you always have.you will have to re-learn certain tricks with the levers round the other way,it's not worth it.There's no right and wrong, just preference. :daumenhoch:
