Title: Perergrine wheels
Post by: ED209 on April 29, 2013, 08:05 AM
are they only Super Pro 'wheels' if they have Super Pro hubs and chrome Pere rims?

I've got anno'd Pere rims on Super Pro hubs ... but where they available like that in the early 90s?

I have Super Pro hubs but with restored rims... anno'd not chrome...

BITD I had standard Peregrines with alloy rims and un-sealed hubs but all my more well-off mates had Super Pro's with chrome rims and sealed hubs. That's how I always thought Super Pro's came.  :-\

As far I know:-

Peregrine 48's - (silver single wall ukai speedline rims, silver unsealed suzue high flange hubs) this is the first 48 hole wheelset released by peregrine.

Peregrine HP-48s - (silver ukai equalizer rims, silver unsealed suzue high flange hubs)

Peregrine Pro 48s - (same as above, but with sealed hubs)

Peregrine Pro II 48's - (Chrome Ukai equalizer rims, unsealed high flange suzue hubs)

Peregrine Super Pro 48s - (same as the above one, but with chrome sealed hubs).

Peregrine Pro Radial 48's - (same as super pros, but radial laced)

Peregrine Pro 36s - (came with single walled ukai's at first then went to 36 hole ukai double wall rims).

There were more variations i.e - Mad Max and Phat Jaxx wheelsets.

Not sure why or when though, the decals on the hp-48's changed from black to disco, or why some are seal-mech.

 :)

Pics I've found show these as Semi Pro

these as Super Pro

So I'm running Super Pro hubs on Anno'd HP48 rims... like these ...

... so does that 'technically' make then Super Pro wheels but with anno finish rather than chrome finish?  :)

Super pro's are chrome rims laced to chrome sealed hubs  :daumenhoch:

So yeah....technically yours are supers but just dont have the chrome on the rims...if that makes sense  ;D

Cheers Gav... just wanted to know what to describe them as... so I'll just stick to 'anno'd Peregrine HP 48 rims laced to chrome Super Pro hubs'  :daumenhoch:

or just FOOKIN LUSH  :4_17_5:

Super pro-chrome hubs with sealed bearings  and chrome rims
Semi pro- polished hubs with loose ball, anno rims

Both the same shells just diff bearings and finishes and rims are the same just diff finishes,
I was told from graham at custom riders they didn't get peregrine wheels as completes they always came in as unbuilt wheels
So I guess you could have any combo because semi&pro are from the same time;)

The second generation Super pros like yours came in either all chrome (hubs and rims) or all anodise finish (hubs and rims).  The hubs are suzue 48 sealed with black decals and the rims are ukai double wall equaliser rims.

Semi pros had unsealed 48 suzue hubs with the reflective chrome decals the hubs only came in chrome. But the rims could be chrome or anodise finish.

Most bike shops like custom riders bought the rims and the hubs separately as they were easier and cheaper to ship and then lace them up how rider wanted them. This is probably why you are getting mixed answers.   :daumenhoch:

looking at custom riders mail order ad from 1995 they did the following

peregrine factory super pros
peregrine hp rims (our chrome) tech hubs
peregrine hp rims (our chrome) super pro hubs
peregrine 48 sliver rim prolite hub

http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/index.php'topic=131775.0

all the other mailorder ads just have super pros peregrine standard 48's
