Title: Platform S&M Dirt Bike
Post by: hboost on April 30, 2013, 08:22 PM
Would you guys refinish this:

I just need an early Ditchfork and a Ukai Equalizer 48 and I'm ready to build it as a survivor. I know there are a couple of others out here in the UK, so if you have one post it up please!

Repaint it. A frame of that rarity deserves to look well. Get a proper job done and it will keep its value.   :)

the decals have been reissued so it would be a shame no to re-paint and re-sticker it :daumenhoch:

Has it been re welded at the headtube?

Not seen one of these without the gusset, not that i've seen many of em  ;D

None of the Platform Dirt Bikes I've ever seen have had a gusset. I used to own this one also and it didn't have a gusset either, so I'm gonna guess that none came with a gusset?

Here's a pic of mine from back in the day. I didn't own it then, but managed to find the pic over the internet.

And here's one that sold recently out here in the UK and is headed over the pond back to the USA.

Thanks, it's the only painted one I've ever seen or heard of. All the others I've come across have been chrome. I've heard of a green one out here in the UK but it used to be chrome as well.

If i was lucky enough to own something so rare i would leave it as is.

What are you doing with the "incorrect" forks you had in th first picture here..??

me personally, i would refinish that frame (in the og color of coarse) and never look back questioning doing it.  :daumenhoch:  fresh paint and decals would be

yes most were chrome, but ive seen in blue, red, green, that purple and i think yellow too.  i remember a number of people around my area that rocked the 92/93 platform dirtbikes briefly bitd.  after that, they all seemingly vanished never to be seen again. you know the old story, get the "new" frame, transfer old parts over, place "old" frame in corner of dusty garage and forget about it.
