Title: Seaside bike id help needed
Post by: nosepickben on May 03, 2013, 12:33 AM
In the mid 80's, in two seperate resorts on the east coast i, along with my cousin rode 2 strange bike. One type was bmx based, with off centre hubs and a metal steering wheel instead of handlebars pretty cack really, but the one im after finding was based on two bikes, fixed parallel to each other with a lever in the centre which controlled the steering of both front wheels, and a seat for 2-3 people slung across the front. I think it had a canopy of some sort too. Anyone know what they were called and where i might find one...??

Only went to Pontins the once, along with some fellow East Midlands region racing guys.  We hired one and took it round the BMX track - it struggled a bit over the jumps.  Also put it on its side turning a corner at speed round the chalets, more sparks than an angle grinder  :2funny:

I think kappy made a bike with offset hubs and geared the steering so when you turned left the wheel went right. Remember a school trip to Thorpe park with similar bikes. Think they got dropped when the world went H&S mad.
