Title: sales and wants
Post by: theRuler on September 06, 2005, 10:17 AM
hey mods how about cruising through that section and removing the spent threads (where parts are sold - or the "want" is satisfied) so we can see the wheat from the chaff?

also, we could have a section for sales, and one for wants? it's a popular section and warrants some sub-division.

This is all technically possible. I think the best thing to do on remvoing from the sales section is delete all posts after say 30 days - manually deleting stuff would be a real pain.  I'll let the admins decide if they want to do it....

there was a thread on the old site saying that for/sale and wanted would be deleted after 30 days, but this didnt always happen, can it be done automatically but in that section only.

Hi....

Rather than a 30 day delete (some things may take a while to sell or find - eg rare and exspensive items), so would it be possible for us to use our user / password and ammend or remove our ads? (with a time limit for users that don't log in / use the site for a while to be pulled)

Then we would all know what is live on the site is still for sale or wanted.

It might not be a good idea to split sale and wanted up, as some persons want is another persons sale - so you'd have to browse both sections, or ...........

If we could search on key words, eg max of 20 caracters for each post, and then you could put in, eg -

sale nos skyway wheel tyre

- or -

wanted senior pro march ...... etc up to 20 caracters.

I set up a site a while back (it's gone to pot now really as no admin) - http://www.classicindex.com/ , but gives a basic search etc, eg type in  - norton, then only pulls the info you are after.

What you reckon?

Cheers

The beaty of keeping them together is it forces people to read the wants rather than just the for sales

i know what you mean actually, but the same principle applies to all the threads really. it bugs me when i go back to read a good thread, only to read 17 sets of " lol's"......

you just have to take the rough with the smooth.

give me admin rights for a day ot two
i will create a seperate wanted section
call the current sales & wants just sales
go through ALL the threads and move the wants to wants, and archive finished sales

i wont edit peoples posts, or change peoples AV's to pictures of dale winton

i have no desire to stay on as any sort of moderator but i spend a lot of time here and want to help out.
look at the stats.

best way to do it would be create me another profile, say, theRulerMOD and give it full access. then after it can be removed.

wandering from town to town , never being able to settle down always looking over his shoulder ...................

I would say that 30 -60 day auto delete would be good if it cleared the crap or a inactive thread delete say 30 days and no posts

Rich :)
