This one goes out to all the facebook haters who think it's pointless ;D
Over on facebook al while ago I set up the Vintage SE Racing page, dedicated to all things SE pre 79 and it's a pretty cool page with regular contribution from some of the old Pro's. 8)
Anyway, from time to time I get messages sent asking "what's this worth etc etc" and recently someone asked " What's a 78 BD-III worth ?",I was obviously in like Flynn asking for pics and details etc and got talking to the owner about the bike.
He got the bike in 80 and rode it on the streets until 1990 where it went into storage in his Dad's loft where it sat covered up. It was only when his Dad told him the house was getting sold and he needed to move all his stuff out, his plan was to fully restore the bike to it's former glory ??? but he had little idea how to do it. So he researched BD-III's on line and saw my restored blue one, he loved the bike and tried to contact me about his :4_17_5:
So we have talked in great length about his bike and it's now heading over here to me where it will not be restored for a very good reason ::)
The reason is that to date this is the ONLY blue BD-III with it's original finish and decals known to exist anywhere, that alone makes this unbelievably rare  So to have it in my collection is simply fantastic.
It also has probably the rarest seat clamp around too, the Gold PLME :smitten:

I will have to change the seat, grips, crank and brake for something era correct but the rest stay's exactly how it should, just goes to shoe facebook aint all bad eh ;)

It just gets better......
There's a decal at the bottom of the seat mast, although it's hard to see what it say's curiosity got the better of me and I had to know before it lands here. Asking the old owner what it said his reply was "it's the decal the shop put on the bike when they first sold it in 78" The shop in question is the legendary Hank & Frank, Oakland California 8) 8) 8) 8) You'll be hard pushed to find another bike with an original H & F shop decal on they're that rare :4_17_5:
-
wow.
I think I would have jumped on a plane and gone to collect that myself. Having that in transit would scare the cr4p out of me.

Glad your all loving it :4_17_5:
Changed a couple of parts on it today as I had nothing else better to, I had a quick look in the stash and decided to opt for a gen 1 Dura Ace crank, kashi seat and 1020 brake set up ( all original condition ) think the parts work really well.
Gave the bike a wipe over and nothing more then took a few pics :daumenhoch:

Having spoke with most of the experts in the States they've all confirmed that this is highly likely the only blue BD-III with original finish in the world, in fact no one has even seen another. 8)
