Thanks guys. I'm really looking forward to getting stuck into this build but still need to hunt down a few bits for it. Gong to take my time so will probably be a little while before it gets built. As for how I found it, the previous owner heard I was after one and kindly got in touch to see if I was interested. Realy pleased with it.

Quick snap of the F+F for those who asked. Not much going to happen now as I need to get some other builds finished off first.

Yes it is.  :daumenhoch: I never really had my eye on one but when that NOS black F+F popped up I decided to grab it. You don't see black ones very often and it was cheap so I couldn't resist. I plan to build it up at some point but need to find some black juice bars first.

I picked it up from Harrogate, but not sure where the previous owner lived. As for the decals they are rougher then the pic gives away, and the down tube has a 3 inch scuff on the right hand side. Even though they are clearly pretty old I don't think the are original. They are stuck on really skew so looks like they were replaced at some point.

Not sure if It will make it to MK, I have cleared out a lot of my spare stuff over the last 6 months so don't really have enough laying around to get it built. Will probably bring the Holmes though.  :daumenhoch:

We definitely need to get a good Mid School camp going this year. Will be good to catch up with everyone.

D'oh, there was an auburn lined up next to your bikes at MK and apart from a dubious choice of stem, it looked every inch a m.s.j. build.
Don't bother with one jon, the pre94 ones ride weird. Headangle too slack and bb too low.

i've just dug mine back out as a rider, the very first thing you notice is the head angle, it feels like no other bike. Having said that, after an hour it felt awesome, really light front end, stiff and responsive. its rare i jump on a new bike and jump it but i did with this with no drama. i have 185 profiles on mine and bb height is not an issue. IMO it feels like it looks, different but in a good way  :daumenhoch:

Nice - that deffo a Piece O' Pipe? Only asking cos it looks like it's tapered at the top - should be just a flat cut off bit.

Always liked this PoP decal:

Its definitely a Piece O Pipe. Its flat on both ends (just a blurry pic), and is stamped S&M BKES. Think this is the one that came with the reissue Holmes kits.

That decal is awesome.  :smitten:

Sa-weet  :daumenhoch: Deffo one of the Holmes kits :)

Glad it is - got all worried as there's been a couple over in the US flogged as PoP's a while ago when they were just re-chromed cut off seat tubes with the Made in the US decal on em :)

How near to completing the build are you (ie some teaser pics please taken in prosser alley :LolLolLolLol: )

Trying to sort out wheels and a white pitbull, then I should be ready to put it together. Finding a white pitbull is a fooking nightmare, and I cant bring myself to paint a black one as its just not the same.  :LolLolLolLol:

Yeah - don't come up all that often and when you do see em they never ship to the UK  :LolLolLolLol:

You could try HBoost/Joe - looks like he's just re-signed up on here. Think he had one (but was a while ago) - worth an ask? What wheel set up you going for (if it's not to nosey), 36 low flange with the ever elusive Mistrals? Costa got some of them hard annodised one's the jammy sod  :LolLolLolLol:
Title: Re: 1" S&M XL Challenger Build.
Post by: midschooljon on September 06, 2013, 06:45 PM
Might give him a try as I really need one.  :daumenhoch:

The wheels I want and the wheels I can get are 2 different things.  :LolLolLolLol:

Would love some Crupi / JP / PMC hubs laced to 25mm Mistrals, but not having luck with that combo either.
