anyone ride brakeless?
i'm pondering giving it a go :P, i keep getting annoyed at dabbing the brake aproaching quarters or in the air etc
i rode the southsea spine mini with no brake and was amazed at the speed/height you pic up
i know gordy at rom rides brakeless, any others in the over 30's?
what are the pros / cons?
pro's
commit to the ramp
judge ya speed better
cons
wear you shoes out
plop ya pants :P
lose some tricks that use the brake
cant tank it out on the street
-
keep your brake on
you still have to stop sometime!

i rode brakeless for about 6 months and loved it. decided to put one back on after a few to many near misses lol

Nothing to add, but just spat my lasagne all over my keyboard, and no it's not slang.

brakeless is good for -
barspins (no levers to hurt your fingers on)
learing more bike control, although it's a very different type of control
i just had my brake off for a month and i'm really glad to have put it back on, if you're airing or jumping and land on your back wheel it's easy to loop out, it's actually amazing how much you use brakes without realising
my brake is back on for good this time although you should give it a go

brakeless is wierd i rode gordi's bike and it felt nice to ride but scary if you landed wrong lol
thing is i used to ride brakeless bitd more or less
as i was always chopping and changing bikes lol
prob explain y i broke so many bones then
-
it brilliant for skateparks as you just whizz around hitting everything big hence my leg
-
i don't know if i could ride no brakes. i am an old schooler just getting back into the sport after about 17 years out. i've only just got a new school bike and it's weird not having a front brake. no brakes sounds too scary. might give it a go one day if i get any good.

Rich, with no brake lever there to cover, you have no choice but to ride 'white knuckle'. Maybe try and learn to ride that way with the brake still on?
I can see the attraction, but personally I know I'd never relearn tyretaps and manuals brakeless so mines staying on :)
It brings a whole new dimension to vert riding though......

it also closes the door on a massive amount of tricks

not gone brakeless yet, just trying not to ride the brake lever. You definitely air higher, but its like having brake lever touretts :P the finger keeps wanting to go back on it on approaching a quarter! gona stick to it though, its gota help
