I know there has been plenty of discussions over the years about the ages and labels of Comp3's.
Yellow = 1st gen
Green/Blue = 2nd gen
Grey/Green = 3rd gen
and so on...
My question is....
What came first Green/Blue or Blue/Green ? is there a gen2 and a gen2.5 ?
OR
was there two factory's producing them (that's how they knew which factory they came from) ?
OR
Another reason?

This also seems to be the case with the 3rd gen Comp3's
Grey/Green with Blue Tioga OR Grey/Green with light Blue Tioga.

Well Steve, my bad for noticing this thread of yours :-[ and...
..I think we should try and narrow down the timeline on the Tioga range mate. I will post the info from the Museum on the range and contact the member that supplied the original info to the 'poster' to see how he came about it mate :daumenhoch:

Any help in narrowing this lot down will be great please guys. I will email Tioga and see what info, if any, I can get from them too.
This is the info from the Museum...
Comp II have the block'ish tread and this first verison was before 1978 with big blocks for tread

Are the yellow label comp II + III repopped now?
If so, are they a close match to the originals?

The Comp III have been re-issued by Tioga but the Comp II is still on 'hold' due to, for what I can gather, 'collectors' insistence it will diminish the retail value of originals. Something else I intend asking Tioga about :daumenhoch:

I'm not surprised - there will always be a place for originals, but when bicycle tyres start selling for 4-figure sums you know there are going to be a few people upset by repops.

Paying that sort of money is insane. :idiot2:
The negative affect on prices predicted by the "collectors" hasn't been the case with most of the other items, Kashmax's etc, if anything it has been the opposite.
Why oh why didn't they re-pop the 2nd gen green and blue label. :-\
-
I still think the blue is the same just faded
-
I think that has confused things even more Terry :-\
Now there seems to be a black/green gen2 comp3 and no sign of the blue/green or green/blue !!
-
From what I can gather there isn't any clever subtle colour swaps to signify age i.e. green above blue and blue above green or different shades of ink, it would appear that there were 2 primary factories that produced the tyres (Japan and Philippines) and its that which explains the anomalies and thats all there is to it… :-\

I concur... :daumenhoch:

thats all there is to it… :-\
I find that rather bold as it cannot be confirmed for sure ???
I mean, it was also put to me that the gen 2 comp III's were run for 3 years so the label colour and 'flip' of the label may signify what actual year they were produced in.

Was that not what I said in the thread starter :-\

For those that misunderstood plain English, what i'm saying is "I can gather" that "all there is to it" is printing misnomers due to there being "2 primary factories"
I am not playing God, or being "bold" as i'm not claiming these as facts hence the use of the words, and I repeat, "From what I can gather"
Goodnight.

Why do they all say made in Japan then if they were also made in the Phillipines ?

I've got a set that I bought around 1998. Black side walls were all the rage in mid school.

Black side walls were the only tyres you could get once upon a time...
