Hi Guys. Loved reading all the stories and looking at the restored/rebuilt bikes on here. As a 40 year old who raced for the Henley Hornets back in the early 80's it brings the memories pouring in!
I started restoring my racing bmx a few years back but have run out of time to be able to finish the project.
Please can you suggest which forum would be the best for some advice on how is the best way to go about selling it. Its a very rare frame (so rare its only reference i can find on the net is a picture of it on the front cover of a BMX Bi weekly from 1985) but it has all its original parts on it apart from tyres and chain.
I have pictures i can post and the specs to hand.
Cheers for your time

Welcome :daumenhoch:
I used to race for Wycombe Wasps BITD and have still got my my Kuwahara. What frame have you got then?
You'll need to get a site supporter tag to sell it on this forum.

Hi Julian
Thanks for the reply.
The frame is an Akibo Pro. Japanese made and i thought it was a tange made frame but the serial number doesnt tie in with theirs. It starts 3L000 then two more numbers. the bike is speced virtually the same as one of the Burner family. I switched to this from a redline and had a kuwahara (which i loved) a mongoose and a skyline before that.
I raced Wycombe a few times back then.
I dont really want to sell the bike on here as such more get opinions and maybe a value on it.#
Any suggestions where to post
Cheers Chris

Akibo? or Akisu?

Hi mate
unfortunately what your asking to do is frowned upon on this site
In order to sell the bike you need to be a site supporter which will cost you a £10 per yr ( to help with the costs of running this site) but you will have to name your price
your welcome to stick some pics and history of the bike in the "me and my bikes" section, as a non supporter, but you cannot make a reference to wanting to sell it.
Best price will be Ebay , if it's as rare as you say
My guess is that you have already had a PM from someone on here prepared to do a back room deal ,.... and then flip it on here for Double£££ ::)
-
Tis Akibo
Will put some pics up on the 80's Race bmx forum in a bit.
Judging by the serial no. there werent many made before mine
-
My Bad
I actually phoned the shop to ask about it and was told to come on here.
Yeah its rare but to the point where nobody will have heard of it and therefore it is probably worthless.
Hense why i wanted some advice.
I will put the picks up. hope you guys find them interesting.
Sorry to cause furrowed brows :-[

Have very hazy recolection of Henley but remember a few or the characters involved. Pat Drummond was on the "commitee" and the Young brothers. My dad supplied the PA System. Oh and Brian Ahsley was the scrutineer.
Good (if Vague) times
-
sadly Pat passed away years ago... still see Janet now and again (assume you remember her?) last I saw of Brian was on wheeler dealers buying the yellow n white Chevy. Being nosy.. who are you Chris?
-
Yes Chris
I remember Janet. It was from her shop on the corner of Station road that i got the bike in question from!
My Dad Charlie still sees Brian from time to time. I moved to North Wales 15 years ago so dont bump into anyone now. Couple on facebook tho lol

Me too Chris.. good to hear from you :daumenhoch: did you go to the end of season trophy presentation that was held at Associated Asphalt approx. 85/86?
-
Dont remember exactly but there is absolutely no doubt i was there. Me and the ole man were regularly at the drummonds whose house was there. Dad and Pat liked a couple of scoops from time to time.
Brian Ashley has finished doing up the Chevvy lol

Awfully sorry old bean
It was somewhat remiss of me not to provide ample clarification
Thankfully Robert Pickle has provided said information by way of a handy link, which was very nice of him
Best Regards

Moving to fire at the mainstream of bombers
Let off a sharp burst then turn away
Roll over spin round, come in behind them
Move to their blindsides & firing again
Bandits at 8 o'clock move in behind us
Ten ME-109's out of the sun
Ascending & turning our Spitfires to face them
Heading straight for them I press down my guns
