Title: Help is this quad an 80's or reissue?? New development :(
Post by: threaders on August 06, 2013, 06:42 PM
Hi chaps.
I am in a bit of a sticky situation and need some help :-\ I bought this quad of a long term member on here, who told me it was an 80's quadangle. I had no reason to doubt this info and I had looked into the different models of quad frames before deciding to get an 80's one and put up a wanted post.
I got this one offered to me and I bought it. Now the problem is, I have sold it on ebay for £320. I listed it up as an 80's quad, but the buyer is telling me its a reissue from as late as last year :-[
I thought all the 2000 and onwards reissues had longer top tubes and lugs on the chainstays. Is this right?? I have offererd him a full refund of £320 once I get the frame back, but if he decides to log a claim with paypal, ill have my account go on hold :'(
Here are pics of the quad in question

Any help and advice would be great as I want to do the right thing buy the buyer if it is a mistake on my part and it isnt an 80's frame set. Cheers fellas :daumenhoch:

Didn't the re-issue Quads all come as loopy's to replicate the early 80's frames, except the Pro's and Expert's that are a different shape ???

Yours definately looks mid 80's  :)

Thanks for the replies so far. As much info as I can get would be great. I just wondered if there were some reissues that I didnt know about. The buyer is saying that he doesn't want a refund as of yet. I think he just wants to make sure its defo an 80's. I have said I will keep hold of his cash untill he is happy ( I have just done a deal for a freestyle quad so hope he will be :-\) :daumenhoch:

its definitely not one of the '2007-on' re-issues,  this use to be mine (though you didn't buy it off me) and was told it was late eighties quad,  and have no reason to doubt that,  so your right in your advertisement,  though if the buyer doesn't want it for any reason ebay will be on his side  All the re-issues where loop tail style based on the very first 1977 quad though they had lanky top tubes (21in I think)  yours has a very short lenth top tube (probably 18in)...

What to do here fellas. The guy after a week of having the quad puts this up:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/old-school-se-racing-quadangle-bmx-/251317768480?pt=UK_sportsleisure_cycling_bikeparts_SR&hash=item3a83b4d120
Then tonight send me an email stating this:
"Can I have a refund on this item as I have shown it to a few friends and we are in agreement that it's not a mass produced re issue. But it's not an original 80's quad. I think it could be rare maybe a one off but I'm not sure."
I have told him ill have a think. I have said I would be happy to take the quad back and sell it on for £320 and then pay him back from that, but I have a feeling he will claim his money back through paypal claiming an item not as described :'(
Have fun at MK everyone who is going and im still up for the freestyle quad from energiza, but look out for this one on the for sale forums:) Cheers, Jonathan

It's late, but let me check I got the story right..

You sold a f&f on eBay advertising it as an 80s quad
The buyer queried this afterwards saying he might not want it after all because it was a reissue
You provided ample evidence that it was indeed made in the 80s

This is the bit that confuses me...
Then he puts the thing in a new eBay listing himself asking for loadsamoney
But then wants a refund afterwards?

If I've got this right this could be a contender for messer of the year, sorry to hear you're being mucked around but hearing this kind of crap makes me glad I didn't sell my haro on eBay
Prices may go higher but there's always the risk of things going sour

He is saying that the quad listed in his listing is not the same one I sold him :-\ I have offered him a refund, but he is now saying he will re sell it as its too much to bother with what with paying return postage ect.
I have worked really hard for my 587 %100 feedback, so would be a little peeved if I get a neg, but I think I will only use ebay for buying in the future and I also dont plan on selling any of my other bmx's unless this quad gets returned.
Thanks for the info and help from everyone :daumenhoch:

You're too nice - nowt wrong with your listing. Would'nt take it back. As Lee said, wouldn't worry right now - you said take it or leave it, so there's no ground for giving you a neg AT ALL.

Also it sometimes pays to make eBay aware of what's going on. I know they can monitor the emails etc but I've found it can be a lot better if you let them know the details personally.
