I'm guessing they made more than a few gen 1 and 2 masters, so why the high prices? Nostalgia? Quality? Something I'm missing?........

I think there are more Gen Freestylers left than Master gen 1 & 2 ;) So they are hard to come across.
The Gen 3 Master, built in Taiwan though I think is actually better built IMO :)
