Title: How to bling up a chain???
Post by: bigfatolly on August 16, 2013, 10:16 PM
Need to finish a build off but don't really want to buy a new chain when I have a couple kicking around.
Thing is they are black and cruddy.
What's the best way to bling one up?
I would imagine soaking in some sort of degreaser then a polish with a Dremel or similar, then a light lube?
Anyone done this or got any tips on how to and what materials to use?

Stick the chain in a pillow case with 3 scourers and a few old socks and a big squirt of fairy then put on a 90 degree wash no spin...with 3 old towels
This will clean the gunk off in one effortless hit
Then wire wheel it or polish etc
Done ut umpteen times 8)

soak the chain in petrol overnight, this will get the worse of the gunk off

if its still a bit gunky then soak again in clean petrol overnight, if not then just give it a good rinse with clean petrol

then hang it up to allow the petrol to evaporate

this should bring the chain up nice and shiney but if not then get a dremel with a polishing wheel and polish it up

as for lube, get a dry lube like finishline

this will soak into the chain and then dry which will keep the chain looking nice and clean and not get your jeans dirty and keeps the chain working nice and smooth :daumenhoch:

this is what ive been doing every other month for years with £40-£50 road bike chains :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch:
