Title: New to BMX restoration
Post by: sac110 on November 18, 2013, 08:47 AM
Hope I've posted this in the right section now.
Im part of a group of 40 something road bike riders who have found ourselves into bmx and restoration.

We have so far managed to pick up a few bits and pieces.
2 bikes ready to ride an Apollo and an unknown Haro, also just needing a rear brake calliper a Hoffman no idea what it.
Then we come onto our projects  2 GT frames a Tour in a really nice baby blue which has started to clean up really nice and a vigilante a chrome Haro, a green frame of unknown origin and just yesterday i picked up a Ammaco Loose Goose.

I have attached a couple of photos and perhaps somebody could help with some info on the chrome haro the serial number F1CP7I0237.
Haro Serial Number (http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac121/WKbmx/DSC_0014_zps35cc1ffc.jpg) (http://s892.photobucket.com/user/WKbmx/media/DSC_0014_zps35cc1ffc.jpg.html)
Haro Chrome (http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac121/WKbmx/DSC_0016_zps4d1bf652.jpg) (http://s892.photobucket.com/user/WKbmx/media/DSC_0016_zps4d1bf652.jpg.html)
GT Frame (http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac121/WKbmx/DSC_0017_zpsd1bcbaf1.jpg) (http://s892.photobucket.com/user/WKbmx/media/DSC_0017_zpsd1bcbaf1.jpg.html)
Unknown Frame (http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac121/WKbmx/DSC_0011_zps69758701.jpg) (http://s892.photobucket.com/user/WKbmx/media/DSC_0011_zps69758701.jpg.html)

I will post some photos of the Ammaco later.

Any info on these would be great.
Cheers
Steve

Update to original post.

Here are the pics for the Ammaco.

I have started to restore the frame with a quick rub over.
Before

Have tried my Skyways, but cannot decide to stick with these and go with a yellow old school saddle or leave it original. The other option is to match the Ammaco colour scheme on the logo and get a blue saddle with yellow wheels.

Any advice would be nice.

I would guess those frames are 90s. Some mid school guys will hopefully be along to confirm.  :)

Easiest way to clean up a chrome frame is an oxalic acid or citric acid bath, cuts out the elbow grease.

Here's one I did earlier.

Does it do anything to the decals? As i don't really want to remove the Loose Goose ones as it will be hard to source new ones.

I've used the Oxalic Acid myself with no adverse effects to the decals.

I will have to give it a try then, thanks.

Some parts are in the citric acid bath, been in nearly 12hrs now, will post some before during and after photos. Had to guess on the mixture used 4 litres of water to 4 teaspoons of citric acid.

Mightn't be enough, I'd have thought 100g per 5L would be more like it but it's all about trial and error   :daumenhoch:

I will see how this goes after 24hrs, then up it if i have too. Thanks for the replays. Not brave enough to try try the frame as worried about the decals may do the bottom bracket as it will sit in the container nice.
