Title: Lock Removal - Will bolt cutters work?
Post by: Orange777 on December 14, 2013, 08:07 AM
Chaps,

Whilst my title sounds dodgy - please understand this is a call for help. I live in an apartment that has underground parking. Two bikes have been abandoned next to my parking spot. Despite a huge sign saying do not put bikes here, use the racks - it just attracts more and more.

The problem is that not only does it affect getting my car out, I keep having to pay for repairs when its scratched.

I have ZERO experience in removing locks, seemingly as does our building management company. I know this week they tried an angle grinder. I assumed some high powered bolt cutters would work.

Having looked on the inter web today, most people asking this question on forums seem to be bike thieves. If you can help but want assurance I am not a thief, please drop me a PM and I can point you in the direction of a couple of well established Radsters who you will know better than me! They will vouch for me.

Come to think of it, asking for a public reply is maybe not wise as it could appear in a search for someone trying to steal bikes!!

PM me if you can gents!

Many thanks!!!  :daumenhoch:

angle grinder should have done the trick, if it didn't work on the lock try it on the frame.  >:D

What kind of locks are they? If they are cheap packlocks a sharp smack on the top side of the body with a hammer is usually enough to break them open. If its a D lock i have seen people use a car jack to pop them. Thats if you dont have an angle gringer of course  >:D

Angle grinder will work just make sure you use a disc for Steel and not Masonry which I'm thinking may have been used the first time   :LolLolLolLol:

Gents,

As ever amazing response! You have probably fathomed over the years that I am not DIY savvy! Neither of them are D-Locks, they are 'Heavy Duty' things.

I will tell them to go for the different blade on the angle grinder.

Fingers crossed!!

THANKS ALL!!!!!

Find someone with a battered car, drag the bikes to the floor and park on top of them  >:D
