My old S&M Dirt Bike that I raced 17ex back in 1992 has been sat in my parents loft for 21 years.
Doesn't look too bad in the photos but not so good in the flesh.
It has got odd wheels as the rear Sun rim buckled doing a 360 over Bournemouth BMX track camel :'(

The bike is now stripped and the clean up and rebuild has started.
I'm going to rebuild as a rider not a show pony so keeping the OG paint, chrome and stickers as best as I can.

Now I'm not a dirt bike fan at all, but that is lush! And love that its og! Sick! :daumenhoch:
-
Pretty sure I have NOS Mistral rim if you want to swap that Ukai? I can do the wheel rebuild too....
-
very nice :daumenhoch:
they look to be a s&m fork/pitchfork crossover going by the dropouts :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch:
-
Cheers for the great feedback guys, this is the first of 6 of my race bikes that i still have in the loft. I thought i would start with the S&M as it's the most complete and the least valuable of the collection to practise on.
Poole Panthers, i take it your Matt if so either you or Mick Whitlock built the Bullseye Mistral rims for me. The chrome Ukai is quite corroded but i would be more than happy to do a swap if not i would be interested in buying the rim. Long term plan the Sun rims will be going back onto my CW promotion that they came off.
Everything on the bike came from Hotwheels BMX.
-
Very nice, specially as it was yours from bitd too :daumenhoch:
Looking forward to seeing your others aswell
-
Thats fookin lush :smitten:
-
Beautifull
-
Well nice that :daumenhoch:

Watched my mate about 20 years ago put his front teeth through his bottom lip on that very same part of the track :)

Least valuable - prices are going up for those. Them bulleye's are not cheap either.
Great bike, just do not over do the resto. Keep it true. ;)

Impressive detective work! Yes, there's a pretty good chance I built the wheels all those years ago. I'll check for sure on the Mistral rim on Friday and get back to you. Great bike by the way.....

I have made a couple of small changes to the bikes components as I want them for my other builds.
I always wanted a Redneck stem but never got around to replacing the DK so when I found 1 for sale in France I ended up buying it
(http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k21/purplescoobywrx/SnM%20Dirt%20Bike%201992/IMG_20131128_214745.jpg) (http://s84.photobucket.com/user/purplescoobywrx/media/SnM%20Dirt%20Bike%201992/IMG_20131128_214745.jpg.html)
The other things I wasn't happy with was the purple Profile chainring and the version 2 cranks that were nearly 10 years older than rest of the bike. I was going to strip the chainring but as it was virtually mint I replaced it. A friend also had a correct age pair of 180mm Profile crank arms for sale so they have found their way on the bike.

Lookin foward to seeing this back together fully.
Stem and cranks deffo look better
-
Look's good that,
apart from the MASSIVE seat..... "nono"
-
Hobbsy back in the early 90's race scene all the cool guys ran a Turbo padded suede seat, love it or hate it that's 1 of the components staying on the build especially as the colour of the stripes match the build :coolsmiley:
-
Pure s&m smut :D
I love it :4_17_5:
