Hi there
I am new to the world of bmx, I have quite a few retro mtb's but have always fancied giving bmx a go.
I have just bought this gt vertigo 1996 , just frame and forks, are they any good?
I haven't a clue on how best to build it, so will be asking for help. Sorry
-
Welcome and build what you like I say. :daumenhoch:
-
Ask away fella, plenty of knowledge on here :daumenhoch:
Bin that fookin stem tho :daumenhoch:
Oh, welcome in ;D
-
:daumenhoch: good base
-
Thanks for welcome.
It's just the frame and forks I am getting, so will need to source the test of the parts.
I like the mag wheels (think that's what they are called) , which are best to get though?
-

Skyway Tuffs, if you like that kinda thing.
Get yourself a Site Supporters Tag, it gives you access to buying and selling on here, as well as helping towards BMX stuff that this site promotes :daumenhoch:

Cool are they expensive wheels?
How do I become supporter? What's the cost?
-
Everything is expensive in old school BMX ;D
Site supporter tags will cost you a measly £10 for a year, how to buy one is at the top of this page :daumenhoch:
-
Actually 2nd from top :daumenhoch:

Welcome in Rojo, you've successfully got your SST, it states it by your name.
Your £10 enables you to buy/sell as said, but also contributes to the biggest BMX gathering in the UK, held in Milton Keynes usually in August, it's a belting weekend, highly recommended. Your cash also helps the general running of the site itself.
There are also members rides held throughout the year, all over the place. Where are you based.
-
No worries fella, now go and have a good mooch around the site :daumenhoch:

Who said we were Pro's?? You must be kidding.
Not too many rides down Devon, but they're worth the hassle if you're happy to travel.

Just need to get parts for the gt now.

Have a look in the museum section at other GT's, get some inspiration, and don't be afraid of asking questions, even if they seem daft. We all started out like you Pal.
A good rule to remember though, is that it's your bike, so build it how you want it.
You'll not go wrong on here.
-
Thanks for wise words.
Where is gt section? Not used to this sites layout yet

Hi mate, sorry for the late reply.
I've never seen those wheels on any bike before, but it's your bike and you can put whatever you want on it.
The normal type of mag wheel are Skyway Tuff II's. :daumenhoch:

No worries.
I have a few sets for mtb's bikes and they did a set for bmx aswell .
Quite like the look of them, not everyone's cup of tea though.

No, but you'll be showing some originality, and that's always recognised on RAD. :coolsmiley:
-
Will see if can find some.
-
Have seen a few people in the US going mad over the spin wheels
Usually see them on mid school bikes, think they're quite rare tho

I see maybe expensive to get a set then. :(
Will keep eye out for other wheels instead.

Yep, metallic orange on the Kona, 'tis a nice bike to ride too.
Mongoose is a heavy as fook thing, use it mainly for my job.
But yeah, i get chance to ride while i'm doing my 'work' ;D
-
What job can you have in a van that let's you ride around hmmmmmm
-
I work for the British Heart Foundation, running stuff around a 80 mile radius from my home (sunny Bognor Regis)
I also put out bags for them (you know, that bag that comes through your door) which is what i use the 'goose for.
I'm not a dealer ;D
-
Oh I see you go around collecting the bags when left out with stuff in it?
-
Yep, and ride around putting the fookers through doors ::)
-
I get you cool, ride around on bike delivering them .
Nice setup you got there.
-
Yeah, its a cool job.
Just me and my van, doing what they want me to do, in the time frame i wanna do it.
And while i do it, i'm looking for, and riding places i wouldn't normally come across :daumenhoch:
-
Sounds ideal !!
Bet you are on the look out for bmx on the travels aswell :LolLolLolLol:
