Because the one he sold was re-done. This thing is oozing Mid school with the parts and colours. I would have done exactly the same. How often do you see PMC hubs and rims for starters

Great buy  :4_17_5:

PMC? I dont even know what they are?

They were a US bike parts manufacturer that only ran for a couple of years (93ish till 96?) that made proper nice parts - race stuff mainly - you'll have seen the seat clamps they did before Rob - they're the ones with a large hole either side of the clamp.

Didn't they make bearingless cranks as well?

Great score btw Ed  :4_17_5:

*edit* here's a linky to a bit of background Rob:

Like Terry said Rob ... this one just reeks of 94 and is original finish / decals with mint parts 8) wot are more purplar.

...plus Richie called the other one a fookin Night Burner so it HAD to go  :buck2:

You would'nt want to catch your ankle on those cranks while pedaling they would slice a piece off every time.
Mind you once you had done it once you would pedal with bandy legs. :LolLolLolLol:

Those profile stems are but ugly Ed.  Ive never seen one on a bike where I thought it lived with the rest of the build. You can put a profile sprocket on any bike and it just looks right. Put a profile shafted stem on a bike and it just looks out of place.

If it was my bike Id get rid of both an hunt down a GT dimple Pro XL. Match made in heaven when combined with an Auburn.  :smitten:

Ed, they made the 1" Powerlite stem from 90 all the way upto 95, in 95 they also produced a 1 1/8" stem.

So good for both our bikes (mine is a 1990).

In my experience Auburns were pretty tough bits of kit. A number of my friends had them BITD, and I never saw one crack. One buddy in particular rode trails on his (and raced every weekend) and it never skipped a beat. The other two only raced theirs, but either way, all 3 were sound bikes.  :daumenhoch:

I think a fair few of the alloy Works Link rear ends did crack if they were abused ... I've gone for a Cro-mo rear to carry my 'slender' frame.

I've rode, raced and jumped mine and its one of the bikes I've owned that I have confidence in. I don't think the forks had a bomb proof rep but your gonna have to do something pretty stupid badly to bend em I recon.

crupi stems are fookin lovely on any mid bike but the perfect stem for an auburn, IMO, would be a GT dimple pro, the powerlite is a close 2nd, but its always good to tweak as you go anyway. looking forward to seeing this complete  :daumenhoch:
