Got the opportunity to buy a Holmes frame and forks was just wondering on how much cash to offer.
its a chrome frame and forks, with large plain red decals on the down tube. No idea on headset size but its in good condition without any rust from what I could see. it was hidden behind a few old road bikes and looking very sad and lonely. Was f&f, with laid back post, stem and crank. I dont even remember what the crank looked like, lol.
Will go back and barter but need some info first.

It depends on what year it is - by sounds (from the deecs) it'll be either a 1" 94-96 or a 1 1/8" 96 (or oversize 97). Difficult to say but F&F £70-90.

Well - deffo check around the downtube/headtube weld - there might be small cracks on the two little gussets there - that's not a prob as a lot of Holmes and DB frames suffer from it and it doesn't mean it's gonna go if you ride it (often wondered if it's just down to el-crappo welding there). What you should check though is under that gusset and see if the headtube welds still good :)
Check the rear drops where it's welded to the stays as well as they go there sometimes.
If it's a 1" then it's worth more (although it's unlikely you never know it might be an earlier 'Murray Stay' version). If it's got quite large rear drops like this one:

then it's not worth paying quite as much fella - and it'll weigh a ton.
Either way it's deffo worth grabbing as the Holmes is a fookin lovely bike to ride - nice roomy toptube length, rear-t's just right for chucking you over jumps :)

Thanks Danny, may be going back on Friday to see him so will check. Dont think it had the huge rear drops though, but im not 100% sure.
