Title: Coloured Anodised Nips On Builds??

What do we think about coloured spoke nips to match hubs?  ???

I have on a few of mine . Nice touch . They look great on skyways

They look good on some builds, however can be OTT if done wrong.

Had em bitd, blue aero rim, gold nipples,blue spokes, gold hubs, got em done at alpine action, £60 built

I was told that the ally isn't as strong as brass, I was also told that if you put a spot of oil on the thread when lacing (I do this anyway, whatever nips) it makes no odds.

To be fair, unless you are going mental fast on a track, or mental high in the park, you'll be fine

I like them anyway.

I had some new school/midschool camo rims, chrome spokes and blue nips and hubs, my fave wheels ever, wish i'd not sold them!!

I just love nips anyway....

I see what you mean, but coloured nips were used on vintage bikes, I did a lot of research when I built my DeCoster and coloured nips were being used by bmxers in the 70's.  Dave Clinton used them on one of his bikes.

I have used black to date but am thinking about using another colour in the future.
I know this may sound a bit too much but i saw a GHP at mk a few year ago that had alternate red/gold nips and chrome rims and hubs. It looked really well and not over the top at all. Didn't get a pic and can't remember for the life in me whose bike it was though.

I built my proclass rims with gold high flange hubs,  gold nips AND gold rim foil ;) they look awesome.

I think it depends on the build, frame colour etc
The red matching red frame  looked cool ....not so sure about the blue/gold silver ::)
Are the colours to match a frame/ brake set up chainring or frame Dan ?  :coolsmiley:
