28 tpi for flights spadey.
-
They're 28tpi Steve & apparently the Tange/tioga ones don't fit as they're too wide to leave enough room to mount the cranks on the spindle.
Hadley 28tpi BB's or a Redline techmatic.I think someone did repro's of the techmatics on here a while back but can\t remember who?

Think was joe6187 who made em techmatic repros .....says Glynn here http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,170434.msg1710998.html#msg1710998

Mike your a star thanks...... Well loose b bs it is then :LolLolLolLol:
-
It's been a long time since I done any old school thinking, but I'm sure the only loose bob to fit Redlines are the Mongoose 28tpi, I can be shot down on this, but regardless the Goose ones do fit perfect 😳
-
I have plenty of goose 28 tpi ones but it does come with a full b b just wondered if there was a sealed alternative at decent price... :daumenhoch:
-
I'm sure if you put in old mongoose bmx In ebay, there are a set of sealed for sale 👍
-
The other alternative is get an unthreaded Redline spindle & use the newer sealed bb's :daumenhoch:
-
Rich has one for sale just ask him if it fits. :daumenhoch:

I been looking into this myself Steve with having a set too. I bought one of the Tioga BB's from Moonster (Ian) with Devilock's recommendation and as it is 28TPI it should fit. The retaining nut on it is quite thick so instead of using that one, use the thin one that come with your old school BB.
I will try mine out tomorrow and let you know okay :daumenhoch:
-
Cheers terry much appreciated. .. then I can just buy one of them :daumenhoch:
-
i did the same with a tioga one when the nut was too thick, fits fine with a thinner locknut.

As promised mate, as I cannot go outside and photograph my Kastan :yahoo_silent:
This is the old Redline BB. I needed a new one due to pitting on the bearing races:-

And this is the Tioga BB I bought from Ian, Moonster on Eaby:-
**Note...The gold lock washer does not fit on the axle without prior modification**

This is the thickness difference of the locking nuts, new to the left, obviously :D

The drive side bearing races are exactly the same:-
(http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w495/Freestylerider/BBs/20140126_113241_zpsc7771c5d.jpg) (http://s1078.photobucket.com/user/Freestylerider/media/BBs/20140126_113241_zpsc7771c5d.jpg.html)
Redline:-
(http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w495/Freestylerider/BBs/20140126_113603_zps6e134d24.jpg) (http://s1078.photobucket.com/user/Freestylerider/media/BBs/20140126_113603_zps6e134d24.jpg.html)
Tioga:-
(http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w495/Freestylerider/BBs/20140126_113504_zpsa305fdd8.jpg) (http://s1078.photobucket.com/user/Freestylerider/media/BBs/20140126_113504_zpsa305fdd8.jpg.html)
The difference here is, the Tioga has the protrusion for the lock ring making it wider:-
(http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w495/Freestylerider/BBs/20140126_113314_zps8825be13.jpg) (http://s1078.photobucket.com/user/Freestylerider/media/BBs/20140126_113314_zps8825be13.jpg.html)
(http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w495/Freestylerider/BBs/20140126_113343_zps410f0b78.jpg) (http://s1078.photobucket.com/user/Freestylerider/media/BBs/20140126_113343_zps410f0b78.jpg.html)
So I fitted the BB cups and bearings using bith BB's and have found the following.
I set the BB cups 67 mm apart, the size of the BB on my Exhibitionist. Using the Redline BB, it looks like this on the axle:-
(http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w495/Freestylerider/BBs/20140126_114318_zps15fda30c.jpg) (http://s1078.photobucket.com/user/Freestylerider/media/BBs/20140126_114318_zps15fda30c.jpg.html)
With the arm butted up to it:-
(http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w495/Freestylerider/BBs/20140126_114338_zps701eed11.jpg) (http://s1078.photobucket.com/user/Freestylerider/media/BBs/20140126_114338_zps701eed11.jpg.html)
Using the Tioag BB WITHOUT the lock ring, it looks like this on the axle:-
(http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w495/Freestylerider/BBs/20140126_114017_zps1fa94ec5.jpg) (http://s1078.photobucket.com/user/Freestylerider/media/BBs/20140126_114017_zps1fa94ec5.jpg.html)
With the arm butted up to it:-
(http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w495/Freestylerider/BBs/20140126_114129_zpsd64f55f3.jpg) (http://s1078.photobucket.com/user/Freestylerider/media/BBs/20140126_114129_zpsd64f55f3.jpg.html)
Basically, you will be fine if you don't use the lock ring as it doesn't go over the axle anyway. The arm will be tightened against the bb and then tightened to the axle so it will not come undone when riding it.
You can always modify the lock ring to fit and use the Redline lock nut if you want, as that is thinner :daumenhoch:
Hope that helps mate :)

I use a new threadless axle with the modern sealed bearing kits.
Works a treat and costs less too.
-
Terry that is awesome info..... Nick do you just mean the new school axles? Will they fit onto old 80s flites??? then use the sealed new school bearings...... :daumenhoch:
