Title: Indoor mini mini ramp building
Post by: ED209 on February 11, 2014, 08:52 AM
So I have a room with a nice high roof .... 6m x 4.7m.

Is that enough space to build anything rideable?

was thinking of going to vert actually up the wall one side and a 3ft high side with platform the other.

Any thoughts welcome  :daumenhoch:

Have been thinking about building one of those small trick ramps like bitd they used to show in mags/books how to build, just to do kickturns, ramp stalls......and rollbacks  8)

Got the dimensions but never been anygood with wood (ooo err), banging and screwing Im fine!

Ed, bring your tape-measure to the Boardroom in a week or so as that looks like the same sort of dimensions as the little practice ramp which is good for nothing on a bike I'd say :-\

To build anything that is going to be any good for a bike you need to be 4ft high minimum and a 4ft platform either end or a 3ft and 5ft would be my preference is space is tight (space no issue do a 4ft & 6ft platform)...

You need a minimum of 8ft of true flat bottom on a 4ft high mini... then say 6.5ft tran, so if you take the bare minimum you will need 9/10m. In width 16ft minimum but 20ft would be better or even 24ft if you have the space.

Last of all deep pockets it will cost much more than you think!  ;)

Not much room on them platforms for disasters and tyretaps! If one platform was bigger maybe but it's going to tight on a bike IMO.

Sorry bud not trying to piss on your chips, it's a great idea and would be fab to have something inside just don't want you to spend a shit load of money and it not be usable. If I can help in anyway and I know I can speak for Rob too then just ask buddy.. Don't buy any timber either until you speak to us  ;)

15ft wide and 20ft deck to deck.... so minimum 3ft platform on one side only... thats a cert.

5ft for mellower tranny on the platform side maybe and 7ft flat ... 5ft steeper tranny up to the wall but not to vert?

Its gotta be possible to make something work  :) on a budget ... TrickyRich is offering wood and you as well which is great  :) I know a few builders and farmers for supplies ... maybe just need to invest in a nice skin.

All good food for thought ;-)

This ramp looks very familiar to me. I'm almost certain it's a ramp that my previous employer built for a local skater. I then later relocated into someone's back garden, check it out;

Now, I suspect you'd look at that and say "looks fun".

You'd be wrong.  It's fine for scooter kids and skaters but rubbish for bikes, for a whole load of reasons I'd rather not go into here.

Anyway, listen to Bru as he knows what he's talking about and don't start planning or spending money until you've spoken to us. I'd hate for you to lay out money and not have something worth riding at the end of it.

You can do summat with that space, so it's all good. Just need to make a smart decision as to what goes in there. A vert wall to 3ft quarter will be fun for all of five minutes - please trust me on that.

No bud. Those radii won't work for a bike.  Way too tight unfortunately.
