Hi all newbie to Radbmx only been on a few months, but great site. This is only my second build. First was a redline Cali red prostyler 86.
This was not what I planed never looked much at Vectors new they were nice frames. Iam 40 this year so I was going to give myself a present :D, we'll iam 40, always wanted a quad the 79 look so good and what a design for the era or even now!!!!!!!!! But I found this frame and it was a real good price lowish I thought so I put a bid in with four hours to go to chase people out!! And to see what it's finishing high price would be.......mmmmmmm no one outbid, so got it at a nice price. So this is an unplanned build. Saying that since the frame arrived I have gained what can only be described as a Vector obsession can I get cream for that............anyway here are a few pics and be patient for more post the bmx lark is for deep pockets and bank robbers :) :) :bondage: so the build will take a long time to do proper......with nice parts, gonna have to sell the kids to medical science first.
Thanks for looking all and any help would be much appreciated.

Nice bike martyc, will add more pics as I go along just gonna lack the Aussie sun on mine bummer...... >:( but if the rain keeps up in uk I will have my own swimming pool like you :)
-
Sweet frame sets mate and you're right they deserve nice parts. Take your time to get it right, some thing's just can't be rushed.
I struggled deciding on the bars and went with the VDCs, Marty's VC8s are spot on in my opinion. What bars are you thinking of fitting?

Thanks jaan like you say like the look of the vc8 or I missed a set of vc10 in Jan, are they the same only larger. To be honest though I cannot get the pro bars out of my head for the build, just sit right and different without the stem. Looking for a minty set though so ££££.
-
Love these frames and nearly bought one last year, so am looking forward to seeing what you do with yours. :daumenhoch:

8 and 10 represent the rise in inches. I like the Pro bars, I had a set of Standards but sold them along with frame set recently. I opted for Standards as Vector promoted them with their race frame sets in a lot of their advertising.
(http://i1174.photobucket.com/albums/r604/J44NCG/RAD%20random%20images/image_zps730e64c9.jpg) (http://s1174.photobucket.com/user/J44NCG/media/RAD%20random%20images/image_zps730e64c9.jpg.html)
The only thing I'd say about both the Standard and Pro bars is that the rake is set due to the integrated stem, so if you're building this to ride you might want to take that into consideration...

think yours used to be mine this is how it looked when i had it wish i'd kept it now as got the matching freestyler which although very rare is the same frameset with extra tubing, bit like curtis did with its freestyler

Hi jaan, I forgot to post it in the last bit, just got a set of vector pro bars from oz great price so they should be here in 3/4 weeks, says chrome is in vgood condition not sure wether to leave chrome or go same white as frame what do you think!.....looking for a NOS pair of red tires now panaracer knarler knobby or comp 3.
-
Looking nice matey. Pleased you found the Pro bars you were after. Looking forward to seeing this build finished!
-
Cheers ding, not sure on size till they arrive may be standards look a bit small on pic, but standards are good too, also in jaan's post further up they are standards on the victory and done in white, that's what has got me thinking about powdering them white, I like the look......
-
Looking forward to this :daumenhoch:

Are they NOS jaan and what years were the comp iv, the may fit the bill.
THANKS JAAN.

They're NOS yes but i'd need to check to make certain at the weekend. Comp IVs ran from late 83 through 85.
What year is your Vector?
-
Hi jaan its 84/85 thinking more towards 85. Thanks for looking jaan.

Hi all slow progress on the vector as I have got into that road cycling game, foook me costs more money than old school BMX. Still got some bits sorted this summer, pleased with the profiles and the NOS mx1000, just need seatpost, clamp and pedals, not sure on pedal choice?
There is a vector post on ebay USA but $375 dollers then import tax bit steep.
Anyway here are updated pics including frame with new decals after powder.

As vector post is crazy money any ideas of another choice of quality OG 80's post to go with build?
-
Some great parts there mate :daumenhoch:
Are those OG decals on the cranks? I have the same set but am after decals.
Have you looked at a red-labelled Shimano DX seatpost mate??
Loving this build!! :slayer:
-
Looking good! :daumenhoch:
-
Hi ding, the wheels looks great mate thought you had a shot at bike of the month :(, the decals are from del, not og, but look good.
And yes do like the shimano post a lot just got to wait for nos one to show up.
-
Coming along nicely now pull your finger out and get it finished!!! ;)
-

The Shimano seat post on the WHEELS was rough when I first got it, but with light polishing and a new decal it turned out perfectly, so not necessary to wait for NOS or red, just buy a red decal and tidy one up :coolsmiley:
-
Cheers ding when I've looked at old ones they do look like they would polish out easy what did you do just wet dry it from 80ish to 2000 grit then polish? I've just missed an old blue one on the bay!!!!
-
Dunno I just dropped it off at my chromers with some car parts and asked them to tidy it up for me, and that they did! What did the blue one go for??
I like that they add a splash of colour and are beautifully engineered.
-
£70 plus pp thing ill grab one next time and have a go got all polishing machine and all polishes in garage.
-
JUST HAD TOO......Seat change, red NOS Elina flight tech out, NOS ELINA VECTOR SEAT IN......... "wantit"

This is a real stunner, but it is leading to me going the whole deal VECTOR Seatpost and ultimate pv-1 pedals if any of you have these nos or real good condition drop me a post! I know it's a big ask..........
-
My PV-1's came from Aus; I know of a few guys on the Ozbmx forum with them too do it might be worth you posting a wanted ad over there buddy... They're pretty rare!!
-
Cheers ding will give that a go :) what did you get yours for?
-
As with everything, not at all cheap.... But it was sourcing the 9/16 spindles that was the real ball ache!!
Another route is to hunt out the hard line Vector collectors on the Museum and hit up a few of them to try your luck.
-
http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/271656493722?nav=SEARCH
This the same one you mentioned??
-
That's the one looks in great OG condition with orig decal, just not the right time of year. My still be there after Xmas, then it's the right time.....lol still a high price, it's been on for a month now.
-
Great bike and a good parts list there bet that seat cost you a few quid , you probably already know but yours is a gen 3 frame from late 84 to 85 , I've 4 vectors and they are my favourite frame I just like the wackiness of them
-
Cheers glenboy, the seats great, it was a good price not crazy. Got to say it's the twin down tubes and the bars that got me on to the vector also, so different, just need the funds and luck of dropping on some pv 1 pedals and vector post and I am ready to build.
-
Did you have a pop on OZBMX to ask about some pedals??? It's where mine came from.... and where i subsequently sourced my 9/16 switch out from as well :daumenhoch:
-
Hi ding, ye I did left a post on a couple, one guy splitting a vector freestyler but no answer :( will keep trying......no real rush I want it done right, may stick a set of kkt lightnings on then swop out later should bag a vector post sooner than the pv- 1s.
-
Last few bits gathered and ready to build, this as been a long collection of parts ( fookin today's prices :idiot2:) but should look sweet when done I hope, visualised the build, but you don't know how it will look till built, then some photos of her, got a friend who's a camera man/ photographer for sky, to do some arty farty pics when the sun finally arrives :daumenhoch:
Hope you like radsters...........(http://i1342.photobucket.com/albums/o775/gavkell/fa806afd5256d50aa067f4eccd06605f_zpsuopx9iv5.jpg)
