Title: New Race Gear
Post by: aaronsat on August 14, 2006, 04:15 PM
I am thinking of getting a new lid as a bit concerned that I am going to do my OS one some serious damage some time soon :LolLolLolLol:

I have had a look on the evil bay and seen a number that look ok - Troy Lee / Thor / One.

Anyone got any advice, as would like a good one, but would to not spend a small fortune.

Also, any advice about race pant and jerseys would be good too.

Thanks

Aaron

Hi ya mate

I guess you can't go wrong woth any of the 661 stuff......take a look at www.Chainreactioncycles.com they normally have loads on offer.

Failing that ....... if it's just BMX racing you could just go for one of those Diamondback ones.....they look pretty good to me??

I agree with pickle, in terms of lids for price & quality the 661's take some beating. I've been using a 661 Bravo for about 2 years now and find it really comfortable.

Regarding race gear, Mark at groove racing http://www.grooveracingshop.co.uk/shop/   sells Fly Racing trousers & tops and they are about as cheap as it gets. Tops are £25 & trousers £45 as apposed to £35/40 & £65-75 respectivley for Wulf / troy lee etc.

Go for a MX lid not a BMX one. I've broken Troy Lee D2 carbons before now on tracks. Its brain thats at risk at the end of the day and those BMX/MTB ones are no where near as good.

Icon do a very good one for about £70-£80 and Fox do some good ones starting around £100.

I use a Tory Lee SE MX one and its very strong, just quite a few quid. I've smashed my head into the ground at nearly every national this year and only the peak's come off.

Aaron ,

A place that I recommended to FF was www.btosports.com

Loads of my mates have bought from here , good savings & 04/05 kit at even bigger savings  :daumenhoch: . (FAST SHIPPING , ASK FF !)

Go with an MX lid , the MTB or lightweight ones are'nt that hot  :crazy2: .

As above also CRC are cool .

As he said, bto are very very good. Massive savings if you go to them for the higher quality stuff. They took 3 days to send me my last lid, highly recomended.

Aaron, you need to get a MX lid mate. A Bell Moto 7 is the dogs and as light as a BMX lid. Take it from me I've extensively used one twice and swear by them.

My stack at Hersden would have been a lot worse without one.
